"The team's Mk3 MR2 has been fitted with a 3.5 litre V6 Lotus Evora engine" "The Evora engine will fit the MR2 chassis fine and we've done a lot of mechanical work like changing the rear hubs to allow us to use larger driveshafts to increase reliability and integrate a dry-break fuel system."

Interesting, but seems like an awful lot of time, effort and expense for 300BHP.
That's easily achievable with the 3SGTE and a few mods.

It is actually a Toyota 2GR-FE engine that Lotus is using. Woodsport has already installed them into MR2's. Lotus uses a more agressive tune to get more power out of the engine.

You would need a wheelbarrow every time it needed taxing .

Tax ceiling is 1566euro. Once you go over 3 litre that's it. Could be a 10 litre and still 1566. Crazy expensive compared to most countries, but this is rip off Ireland after all

I have wondered that if there was a new engine like this in the SW20, could it be taxed on its emmisions just like all new cars are ?

Import a converted car from England and get it taxed on the new emmisions based requirements. Not sure what the CO2 emmisions are but it might be cheaper to tax then, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Afraid not.The way it works is cars made after a certain year use the emissons.Cars before go by the old law,cc's.It all depends on when the car was first registered in its original country.

It would be worth investigating if someone was looking for this kind of MR2. Me, I have invested too much in the 3SGTE.

I am sure an SIMI registered engineers report might give customs and revenue acceptable figures considering there is no baseline car here.

But then again the RX450H might be its closest match and therefore 150g/km which equates to yearly tax of €302 per anum. The buggers would figure some way of meessing that up on you though.

I am pretty sure that slipslider is right. All cars manufactured before a certain point in time yes, but ALSO all cars registered in Ireland after that point, regardless of age. When the car is registered, just like with a brand new car, the car is put into a tax "bracket" on the new Irish VRC. As far as I am aware, this is the case now.

What would you rather have, 225 lbs/ft at 3250rpm and then flat :S

or 200 lbs/ft at 3250rpm and then 370 lbs/ft at 4000rpm :woohoo:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

ok it's not exactly a standard 3sgte but you can get pretty impressive numbers without the hassle of having to change engine mounts and rewire everything..

Both running e85

Great top end power but really? good examples of turbos that would suit a higher capacity engine better - maybe a v6 ;)

Re:Rogue running a MKIII with Lotus V6 10 Years ago Karma: 213
I must try and see if I still have the emails. I was so close to being in the first Group Buy for the 2GRs on Woodsport - I remember I had paypal open, ready to send the deposit to Gouky in the US.

Anyway, was checking with NCT etc as to whether they would check it based on MR2 emissions or emisions of the car it was from. I was told it would be based on the car it was from. So, it could pass no problem

On insurance, one company did say that if I was to put in a 3L Camry engine, I'd be insured based on a 200hp engine and so could be cheaper.

As far as I can remember, the tax was based on car year/engine size - so, would get hit with the old non-emissions based tax.

If not for the hassle, I'd have a 2GR any day over the 3s-gte. BUT - I'd get it supercharged. 400hp and a powerband to die for.

I know you can get a 500+hp driveable 3S but you have to work it to get the power. Imagine being in 5th at 30mph - no dropping gears - just put the foot down and you get the power - any gear

But, the hassle is there - so, I am on a quest for 400+hp 3S-style

In the link it goes on to say that Rogue changed the hubs to allow the use of stronger drive shafts. Does anybody have any more info on these parts ?

For sure Marty, but would you really go to all that extra expense, work and time for bigger hubs and drive shafts?
Im starting to wonder what this beast is going to be like, you must be working for big HP.

That's not a real lotus engine anyway.

The last proper real lotus engine was the 2.2 Twincam, like in our Excel SE.

Here she is when we were rebuilding it earlier this year.

So how do you explain the Type 918 V8 which was developed in the early 1990's, not a real Lotus engine ?

Lotus was owned by GM, and Chapman was dead.
