Hey guys,
My names tony im from sligo and bought my first mr2 a few weeks ago (sounds like the opening line from mr2 anonymous)
So what I have is a 95 n/a but not too sure if its a rev2 or rev3 it has the rev3 back lights etc but has the 3 piece rear spolier is there other ways of checking ie chassis no. or engine no. Ill try and put up a pic bellow
So my other question is about the power steering it works for approx 1 minute when you start the car and then nothing so it is working but only long enough to get out of a parking space etc. Any advice of where go start looking would be great
By the way happy st Patricks day

By the way its a jap import if that makes any difference.
Could it be a rev2 registered late?
And is there much difference between a rev2 and a rev3 engine?
Sorry for all the questions and

you could tell the difference by the steering wheel. in rev 2s you can pull the steering wheel in and out aswell as up and down. as far as i know rev 3s only go up and down??? i could be wrong...

late registered rev2 id say, black sills and spoiler are a giveaway. splitter shud be black also, are ur rear corner spats black or red? a pic of the interior wud tell us straight away as wheel and seats are different. engines are totally different to look at also
Welcome along anyway,
P/S can be troublesome, check connector plugs and earths, also check the steering position sensor on the column as the loosen and give intermittent problems, but the fact that it comes on and the stops it sound like the P/S ecu up the front cud be one the way out, mine was acting up so i bypassed it

There just corner sections on the bottom of the rear bumper.
Yeah, get some more pics up.......
I have the powersteering solonoid being bridged by a feed from one of the windings in the alternator as it was the only place I cud find a feed that was live with the engine on but not live with the ignition on as I didnt want the pump running if I left the ignition on, so mine runs while the engine runs, and hasnt given me a minutes trouble since,
It wud be easier to just swap an steering control unit from a scrapped one thou.....if thats the problem of course!

Upload a pic of the engine, if its rev3 then the car should be a rev3,
Also rev2 brake discs are smaller than rev3, google the diameter of the rev2 and 3 disc brakes and measure yours, if yours are a rev2 then the bigger rev3 discs and calipers would be a nice upgrade.

Its a rev2, the spoiler and interior are a dead give away, its just had the rev3 rear light converison done. If it is a rev2 its definitely not a 95 car.
Here is a link on how to determine which revision your car is...

Thanks guys for all the advice,
I think I am satisfied that its a rev2. chassis no., spoiler, sills, interier etc etc
On the log book it was registered on the the 1/1/95 so im guessing it was sitting round in a garage somewhere in japan and registered very late
