Need help deciding - Swap or Not to swap... 7 Years, 10 Months ago

Hi All,
As some of you know I have a white GT-S which I'm 'doing up' in an attempt to get it all sorted and back to mint condition. I'm about halfway through it but a friend of mine has told me about a ep3 Type R for sale and after looking at it and driving it the owner asked about a swap deal for his.
Its a black '02 with similar mileage, taxed and tested.
What would ye advise?

it's really down to what you prefer.the civics are so reliable and would be cheaper on juice.they got alot of Good reviews over the handling and stuff..but if you swap you lose that bit more power and that special feeling of owning a 2:-).I definitely prefer having an mr2

Ep3 lovely car way to sluggish for a 2.0 tho , same as dc5 are way to slow for a 200hp, saying that I owned a fully rebuilt sir before and once you start the v-tec ,,,,,,,, its hard to like any other car , plus the civic is nice for long journeys ,

My old DC5 was no slouch, there are a lot of dirt boxes out there though.
Is it a JDM EP3 or UK Cashy?
If its a UK its only worth 2.5k or so for a good clean one for the pre facelift. The JDM one has the better extra's (seats, LSD, more power etc) and is worth a good bit more.
The brother had a UK EP3 when I had the DC5. For having no LSD etc its still a great car, not as fast or as good through the bends as the DC5 but not as expensive either.
Anything else you want to know just ask

Iv yet to see a dc5 touch a dc2 I peronaly think the dc2 was the best from a bad group unless you flush and have a s2000 , a ep3 is a perfect cruising car but after that mods cost a arm and leg , most ppl would disagree but my sir had a full rebuild and still only gained 40 horses with a huge bill , I personally think you should stick with what you have

Most Dc5's are stock ( due to the price of parts, 500 for the better intake! ) where as nearly every DC2 has a mani back with a filter at least.
My own was as quick as a mates 00 dc2 with a nice spec, his felt better in the bends (still handled extremely similar mind) but couldn't stand the ride.
I've had a few Honda's and only like the DC5 because of the drivability of the K20, loads of low down torque.

That I do agree k20 is a perfect engine just mods cost too much , one thing I will say the stance a a dc5 with nice alloys is sweet , I'm sorry but the ep3 don't do it for me in spec on paper its a great car and cheap money now the only thing when you pass the young lad fase it gets quite costly for tasty mods

if I had to go for vtec it would have to be the s2k.Mate had one and I got plenty of driving out of it..it's quicker than the ep and teg, easier to insure and a lot nicer in my opinion.tis dearer though..even still the s2k wouldn't keep close enough to the back of my exhaust for that sweet smell:-)..

Thanks all for the replies I did enjoy the spin and all its cubbies an holders. Tons of space!?! Deceptively big car. Its an Irish car from new. Not as torqey as the tubby which is to be expected but the noise!! Standard airbox and exhaust but it sounds great Id prefer an S2K too but there holding value and a similar 02 one I expect would be much dearer. I'll sleep on it

The mr2 is rwd, has more power and dosent rust like hondas but since its a 02 it probably wont have much rust yet though.
I suppose the only good thing is that it has more space.
I wouldnt swap but sure its up to you, whatever floats your boat...

Why comment on a post like that ? There's hundreds of thousands of cars out there with rust on them Honda's are prob the least likely to rust in the ratio of cars sold

Were not talking about other hundred of thousands of cars out there, were talking about the mr2 and civic.
Cashy is deciding if he should swap or not so im sure he dosent mind people telling him the good and bad points about the cars so he can make up his mind.
The lad wants to know if he should swap his mr2 for the civic, im saying when that civic gets as old as his mr2 is now it will most likely have more rust on it, rust would bother me more than anything.
Hondas are reliable though and parts would be easyer to get since its more common than an mr2.

Lol there's no part of this quote that's positive other wise than the more space , if I was a newbie looking at a post like this there's no way I'd be asking a random question , as for older civics integra's hondy city's accords iv only every had experience with bolts getting rusted shut . seen a few with sill rust but they were all UK cars with no rust inhibitor sprayed on them , maybe a better way would have been to say to spray the underneath of the car if you get it with rust inhibitor to stop any future problems

Ok - Made up my mind yesterday and have no pics yet but here's pretty much what the car looks like! The body very, very good and civic has no rust anywhere, even underneath! Has white JDM wheels just like the pic too Thanks for all your comments

Thing that made up my mind is the fact that this ep3r is a solid base to build on!
The MR2 - I kinda rushed into buying and it wasn't a great base but looked stunning :woohoo: Bought it with my heart rather than my head. Don't be afraid to walk away. I spent a bit making it better, suspension, wheels, aerial, discs, pads, seats, ect but there was still quite a way to go unfortunately
On a brighter note the K20a is no slouch so I'm not seriously lacking power.
I'll post actual pics asap!
Thanks again

Looks like a nice Civic Cashy - enjoy it and live life.
As for coming back to an MR2 sometime in the future - never say never!

Congrats on the new car, the parts for them aren't as dear as for the DC5 so don't be too put off if you want some bits.
Have a look at getting a fast road setup (FRSU) , really can make the world of difference on handling
