As the title says, it seems impossible to get insurance atm, unless u have had an existing policy for ages.

Are you talking about having it as an everyday driver or Classic?

I am trying to sort out classic insurance for my turbo. I will try campion, they already gave classic on my N/A last year. I intend putting my 97 turbo on the road.

I am insured with Axa. If they are no use then I'd say give Campion a call. BTW, you could also put in an enquiry to the insurance ombudsman. The insurance industry is regulated and my understanding is that they should not be just flat turning you down.

I rang Campion, The car needs to be older than 20 years now, due to them having changed insurance companies.

They covered my 1995 N/A but I am with them for years now.

Tried Carole and Nash, They will not touch Jap.
Tried AXA they won't anything younger than 25.
First Ireland and Brophy's 20 years.
The struggle goes on.
@ Ray, Existing costumers for campion are ok!, I left my policy lapse.

Congrats CRMR2
Seems a bit higher in price though than what others have been quoted, hopefully there are no increase renewal hikes coming..
Might be down to the car value being covered being fully comp ?

that's not bad, they can not offer the normal price of €240 as the car is not yet 20 years old, I had the same issue a few years ago on another car, Campion Insurance covered it on the limited mileage policy, but it was about €120 more expensive as it could not yet be classed as vintage

It was €350 (excluding €25 for IVETA) 2 years ago with campion. I would be thinking it is the young age of the car. Campion are offering €250 for a car older than 20 years.

Hey folks, just wanted to chip in some latest info on this thread. I am looking at moving my 2 over to classic insurance in a couple of months.
As posted above Axa will only classic insure cars over 25 years old so I will be kissing them goodbye.
To look at alternatives I rang First Ireland and they were extremely helpful. They will insure 20 year old cars as classic at €230 for the year assuming you have a seperate daily driver. That's also a fully comp policy with windscreen and stepback insurance etc. Previously a distant dream for classic?
When I spoke to Axa they were practically trying to throw the business away, First Ireland though were very keen to win the business. So if you are looking for a quote give them a try. I spoke to Dervilla on 01 882 0826, if you call her say that you were sent by the MR2 Drivers club, she said they knock a little bit more off coming through a car club.
One thing to note First Ireland will only insure over 30's on MR2's

Hey all,
I just got my renewal from Campion for my 1995 MR2 N/A and its 330 plus 25 for IVETA. I'm a little disappointed because using my maths the car is now 20 yrs old and I was expecting a 100 euro drop in price
Someone mentioned that they've changed their underwriter so maybe that explains the change. Note that that's for very basic Third Party (no fire/theft or other frills).
Thanks,
Liam

Just a quick update - got a call from a decent fella in Campions who said that they had sent out the wrong amount it was reduced to what I had been expecting. All signed up for another year!! Just have to pay for the 3rd piece of paper and then I'm ready to go

I was with Campion a few years ago, and from what dealings I had with them, all the policies that they offered me were 3rd party. Autoline offered fully comp for the same price so that's why I changed ... 240 I paid last year I think, I have not got my renewal for this year yet.
Although I suspect that they way that euro is gone to sh1t against GBP .. there will probably be an increase

Good to hear Liam, I have the triple on the windscreen from today as well. We shall have to go for a spin soon.

so lads, just a quick question, are Campions/First Ireland the way to go?
94 rev 3 turbo, will be insuring it as a 2nd policy as a classic hopefully.
Also, where do you pay the IVETA? I'm already a member of a classic car club for a couple of years, but i presume i must sign up for something else?
Any info is appreciated

Hi Bommie,
Did you try AXA?
www.axa.ie/car-insurance/classic-car/
Another good thing they have in regular car insurance is comprehensive cover for driving others cars those are not in your own name. if you know what I mean?

Hi Luksander..i know you are not telling me to sign my car into someone elses name and then drive it on my own insurance!
I currently have open drive for vehicles not in my own name on my existing policy...hypothetically, could i sign the mr2 into my fiance's name and drive it on my 3rd party extension..she has a company car so currently has no car registered in her name...
This is purely curiousity by the way!
I'm planning on insuring it as a classic on a seperate policy to my daily driver, but i think this is how a lot of young lads seem to be driving cars they couldn't get insurance on normally! if the classic policy comes in at under €300 i will have no problem paying it as i'd like to keep things above board when it comes to insurance

Axa told me my '92 is not old enough for Classic. They have a cutoff point for younger than 25 years. First Ireland is cutoff for younger than 20 years.
