New to MR2s kinda by accident 8 Years ago Karma: 0
Hi folks,

I know ye are thinking how do you accidentally get a MR2? But long story short my friend bought it 7/8 years ago as a weekend car but that never really happened so it sat outside his house looking sad! Now he's heading to Canada for a few years and was going to sell it to a scrap yard so I said I'd pay what the scrap man was! Done deal

So I stuck in a battery some fresh fuel and she started up first try! Got to love Toyota's ha.

The car is a 92 red G limited T bar, it has leather but drivers side needs a little repair, the brake callipers are sticky and it needs all fluids & belts changed.the engine sounds great no nasty noises and next to no rust.

Its nct is so far out I'd get jail if caught driving ha, I'm going to book it in and see what's what before I spend too much, but all going well it will get a new lease of life.

I'll take pics when I get a chance and in the mean time I'm all ears on what to look out for best place to get parts etc

Are the brake callipers serviceable or better buy new. Oh any recommendations for insurance for classics?

Welcome, defo throw up some pics and check sills for rust.

Try Jack for classic insurance 0872574581

Also breaks sticking is common with them even if you leave it parked up for a month,
driving it usually frees them up,
if not take the caliper off without disconnecting the brake line and run the piston in and out a few times, careful because piston can pop out and then you might aswel go and buy a new caliper so make sure you put a socket or something there to stop piston going out all the way.
use lots of wd40
spla300
Booooost!!!

So after spending the weekend looking over the MR2 she actually needs very little work, im working on freeing the brakes but ultimately I'll rebuild them, the motor was changed at some stage and a sloppy job done bits lose here and there and trim thrown in the booth, also the coolant pipe from hell needs replacing. But all in its a tidy car just unloved.

I rang around insurance companies and got a quote of €220 3000mls fully comprehensive, from autoline, pretty reasonable.

The previous owner also has a pile of history and owners books, a set of tein coilovers and brand new t-bar seals, I also know a guy who has a crashed one with no engine but lots of spares he said take what I want as he's scrapping it soon.
