For several years our forum has run quite well although recently it has been slowing down. Mostly this is not due to the software but actually the hosting company I am using. While it is easy to say 'just copy it to a new server', the reality is that it's not that easy. The version of this forum software is not available (or supported) anymore, and also the newer hosting servers do not run the underlying software that we need to run this.

What does this all mean?

It means that we can keep the written documents, comments, etc etc, however to improve the performance issues it will likely mean moving to a whole new server (possibly different hosting company) and also using a newer version forum. This means functionality changes and also the look and feel will be different.

This can kill some forums so I figured I would ask what people think first. Do you think we should change to a new forum software?

I have noticed it slowing down too...

Ok so which hosting company are you currently using, i know techies from most of them, we might be able to get the DB optimised to give us some breathing space, or it maybe be a case that we need a few more CPU cycles but i reckon its DB reads that are the issue.

I have a couple of servers dotted around the net which we could use, but the hassle of moving and keeping posts between different forum software is a pain, and also the security of most of them is dire.

I always say its the users that make the forum, but I do know what you mean about change making it loose some soul. All this is way over my head, but if the admin changes are not a nightmare, the hosting cost does not rocket and the site moves to a new software version then personally I think thats a good move.

Change is good ... I say go for it ..

If its becoming outdated then you probably should do it when you have the choice as opposed to being forced to do it because no one supports the software any more.

Software that's tapatalk compatible would be great tbh as I always use my phone to browse so can never upload pics or anything

I think the important part is the "recent dicussion" tab

I like the way the current site looks because it is not cluttered, but would not object to change.

I like the site as it is because it is so user friendly and i like the layout. The site was running pig slow before christmas but I am finding it ok at present. Thats my 2 cents worth....

Agree the recent discussions is very important to keep

Also I like the email notifications

How much is this all going to cost ...

The speed issue seems to be sorted of late , as for new software once it dose more or less the same job i dont see a problem
