The battery in my 1990 mk2 has went completely flat. I can't use the fob to open the car and the keys (both) don't seem to work in the locks either, they turn both ways but the car does not unlock. I've also tried the boot with no luck. Has anyone any ideas how to get the car open or get power to the battery? I'd like to avoid breaking anything if possible

Have you tried a metal coat hanger ?
ie;straighten out the hanger and bend a hook on one end
feed the hook inside towards the lock and pull it with the hook
you should then be able to gain entry !

Although I sympathise with your dilemma ryand, I would ask that all replies to this question be sent by pm.

We don't want scum using tips to break into our MR2's.

Cut a tennis ball and pop it at the lock

...I jest, agree with what Marty says but most the scum know all the tricks at this stage

Where are you based? If your near north Dublin I've some rods and stuff from a security gig I done years ago so I'm a dab hand at getting into cars ...Legally off course

Otherwise I suggest thus: Whats your insurance policy on broken glass? If its covered claims free (most are) then smash the side window and reach in

Last case scenario of course

Cheers for the advice everyone, I ended up getting a locksmith out. He got it open in about two minutes.
