Tbar have you got one in Dublin? 12 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 117
Hi,
Got into my car today, haven't been in it since last wknd, and my alcantara passenger seat was soaked.

I have the car since April, never really noticed any leaks before.
I suspect i the seals might just be a tad out of alignment when i last put the top on.

The seals look ok, and i have lubricated them a few times since i got the car.

What i am hoping to do is meet up with someone with a Tbar which doesn't leak and compare
my seals and there etc, to see if i can spot the problem.

Cheers,
Tony

Hey Tony, no go from me unfortunately - I'm on hardtop so no use to you

If you get stuck, there's a lot of info about that on mr2oc.com

I've no roof now but had 3 t-bars before this and battled until I bit the bullet and went for new seals. I got them from Toyota Dallas and they were much cheaper then here !!!

But - first search for "MR2 eccentric rod guides". They basically off-set the way the t-bar locks in and makes it tighter. I think if you search on IMOC, someone will have the part numbers.

Can you remember how much the seals were roughly?
Were they handy enough to fit?

Thanks for the eccentric link

I think they were 100 euros per side delivered-are yours leaking on both sides ?

They are straight forward to remove/fit - just need a flat blade screw driver and also a small ratchet with an extension bar and 10mm socket.

I'd say an hour tops to remove/fit both sides.

Nah just the passenger side, closest to the engine. The slit where the tbar seal and the pillar seals join, seem to have a tiny gap.

Maybe new seal is the best plan
How much did Toyota Ireland want for them do you know?

Had a look at the eccentric rod guides, did replacing them make any difference?
Thanks,
Tony

I was actually so fed up with drips that I ordered seals and rod guides at the same time. Plan was to fit the rod guides and if they worked, I'd just sell on the seals.

But at around time I got the seals, I had decided to sell the car. So, I just fitted the seals for the guy who was buying the car.

I can't remember exact figures but te price difference was something silly - I think about 190 euros per side from Toyota IRL.
