Hi everyone, I've recently finished my own mk2 low rise headlight conversion.
I'm happy to say that these will be available for purchase very soon.
They are 6"x4" glass, sealed beam 'Raybrig' style lenses that fit onto my own custom base plates, and utilise the stock adjustment. Only very minor modifications are needed to fit these, and they accept a standard h4 bulb, so they are virtually plug and play !
They are fully adjustable, and are universal beam.
The mounting plates are cut from 4mm sheet aluminium, so you have no worries of them ever rusting
The kit will comprise of:
2 x 6"x 4" sealed beam lenses, pre-assembled to the mounting plates
2 x aluminium mounting plates, wrapped in black vinyl
2 x custom shrouds finished in black gel coat
2 x modified lifting arms to set the correct height (I'll need your existing arms to modify)
2 x 3rd fixing point brackets
All fitting hardware
Full fitting instructions with pictures will be provided
5 sets are currently in production, and should be ready in a few of weeks time
The price is £179.99 including UK delivery, and i'm happy to get a quote for you guys in the R.O.I
I'll let the pictures do the talking, i've purposely left the stock drivers side unit in place to show the difference

So just to be sure, this includes everything to make this work?
If so, I'm in

Yep, everything mate
They take around an hour or so to fit, from start to finish. The only thing the end user will have to do, is visit their local m.o.t/n.c.t garage to set the beam height and angle

They're standard h4 fitment matey, so I guess a HID bulb will fit with no problem. Unfortunately, I don't have one here to try - but if I can get one, i'll check for you

Just an update guys, the first 5 sets are now spoken for
1. SteveH - mr2.ie
2. Spidey - mr2.ie
3. Adzmr2 - mr2oc
4. Msherry21 - imoc
5. Headcase - mr2oc
I've had a couple of minor set backs over the last few days - mainly to do with the moulding company, but have got it sorted out today.
We're looking at about 4 - 5 weeks until they're ready to send, hopefully sooner. Any subsequent orders should turn around much quicker, but it's been a case of getting all the manufacturing processes set up for the initial run
I'll keep everyone updated in due course, and look forward to seeing them in action

great looking kit, Gaz this is one mod I would consider if I wasn't saving my cash the Highland Run, plus, I don't drive at night that often
For the guys getting the kits in the republic, if the delivery is expensive to your part of the world you can have them delivered to me (UK address) and we can meet up somewhere.
Other option is to have all kits bought by .ie members delivered to one address in the south.
Both option there just let me know and I will PM Gaz my address

Sounds good, Spanky - when Gaz gets a quote for delivery to your address and to one single address in the South, we can compare.
I am sure we are going to get more members buying them once they see them.
I mean - i know loads of members love the popups because they are cool. But, i have nebver heard anyone saying they like them because they go up so far ! Who has done a mod to make them go up even more ??
I reckon this mod is how they really should have been from the factory

Hey Gaz
Let us know how much deposit you need up front. I don't think you should undertake a job without getting some sort of commitment from the potential customers

Cheers buddy, i'll update as soon as I know
Thank you for the deposit offer mate, very kind of you - however, i'd like to get the kits completely built up and tested before I take any money at all. I'm hoping it's only going to be a few more weeks tops - i'm just waiting on the shrouds.
I'm eager to get my own fitted too - i've had to remove them for copying them
They're going to be awesome when done, not long now

Right, just an update....... shouldn't be long now guys
Visited my fibreglass man yesterday, and the shrouds have been moulded. Hopefully he'll get a few done this week, so there's a chance i'll have some for next weekend
I'll just need to test fit them to my own car first, and providing it's all good, they'll be ready to go !!!

This is actually pretty sweet.
If you do get them made en masse and they look good, I'll consider buying a set from the US (provided I get that job first!).

Right, an update :th:
I've had the shrouds copied, so now they're ready to sell as kits - bar a road test on mine first
The shrouds were supposed to be pre finished in black gel coat, but due to the moulding process - although they are 'pre-finished', they will still need painting  In light of this, i'm reducing the price to £169.99 per set including recorded delivery within the UK - or £199.99 and I will spray the shrouds to match your car (i'll need you to confirm your paint code).
Full fitting instructions will be provided, and basic tools will be needed to fit them. The installation should take around 2 hrs from start to finish.
Here's a few pics of them fitted to mine. I still need to paint my own shrouds and generally tidy them up, but these are the prototypes

Will do Rob, i'll get the kits built up this week hopefully, and let you know when they're ready to go
I'd guess that postage shouldn't be too much more expensive, but i'll confirm when i've got a quote.
They really are a doddle to fit, but I just want to be 100% confident that you won't have any problems
I'll send the kit over - with modified arms, but will require you to send me your stock arms once you've fitted the kit

Hey Gaz - are there LHD versions of the lamps you are using ? Could definitely get a lot more sales from the US. That is, of course, if you are planning on doing more

Universal? Do Irish/UK cars not have to have the flare on the left hand side to illuminate signs and pedestrians?
Is it checked in NCT anyone?

I was just reading the NCT manual there quickly. Kinda confusing diagrams, IMO! But, from what i can make out, the main horizontal requirement is not to project to the right for the oncoming traffic.
Looks like the left isn't a requirement. However, i shot them off a mail to confirm.

Anyone fit these yet?
Considering this as next on the list, any news from the NCT?

Hi guys, sorry I haven posted for a while - once again, I've been waiting on parts to arrive !!!
As these are the first production units, I've had to order quite a few parts. With the bulk of the kits being custom, it's taken a bit of time finding suppliers that can make parts for me.
Regarding beam patterns, as long as they don't dip the wrong way, you should be fine. It's just like taking your car to France and blanking off the beam pattern (or vice versa). You might want to check with the nct over there, although I'm pretty sure your laws won't be too dissimilar to ours ?
I also wanted to test the lights properly on my own car, before selling any, and can confirm that the light output is great with osram night breakers. I'd like to fit hid's at some point, but they're not necessary
I'll be getting the kits built up over the next week or so, and will finally be able to get them to you shortly.
Thanks for your patience guys

Another week or so suits me - will be just in time for April payday !
When i get into work on Monday, i will post up a reply i got from the NCT. Its a bit confusing but as far as i can make out, its just the vertical dip that is important and the beam can't go onto the right. But, there is no requirement for the beam to go onto the left/path/etc

Not sure who you were asking - if you meant mine, they were straight forward. My Border front bumper was from Replikit. I just needed to dremel/cut the holes where the light bracket/fitting sits into the bumper.
