Hahaha always annoyed me driving around with a drink between my legs, changing gears can be tricky and I know it will end in tears some day

Busy day today! My engine bay has really been letting the car down since it's been parked up so I bought some of this stuff in Halfords..

Before..
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

After 3 applications (spray it on and leave for approx 10 mins, then powerwash off)

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

It definitely improved the looks but I still wasn't happy. I had a feeling this would happen so I picked up some sandpaper and high temp paint while I was in halfords.

Began disassembling the throttle body and I/c pipework so I could get at the rocker cover. When all was out of the way I could access the exhaust mani heatshield so I said I'd give it a rub of some sandpaper. While I love the fully polished look, I will not be going to that detail as all I want to do is keep the stock look of the engine but just to freshen it up a bit so I got it to this brushed metal level

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

TB was filthy when I took it off but it's all lovely and clean now :)

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Doing the wash up

The parts in different stages of cleaning/sanding in prep for paint

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Plan is to paint the intercooler pipes and rocker cover in the same high temp silver paint

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The TB an inlet mani are all just getting a light sand to freshen them up. Not going to go mad on them

Hope to get stuck into it again after work tomorrow :)

The parts are going to look awesome when they are sprayed up. The Halfords High Temp paint is the best that I've ever used.
I once did my intake manifold with a cheaper brand and it started peeling instantly.

Will you finish it with a High temp lacquer?

Nice work on the throttle body too, there's certainly few ponies to be gained from that.
Buy new throttle body gaskets from Toyota while you have it off

Re: My GTS 8 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 60
hopefully they'll come up well Was actually only thinking should i lacquer them as well, what did you do Rex?

Don't know do i want the glossy finish as i'm only trying to freshen the engine up and keep it pretty stock looking. Don't want it to look too prettied up if you know what I mean and glossy painted engine parts don't usually come from the factory. But i'm sure the lacquer would help with durability

Ah that looks brilliant.

Probably like the day it rolled out of the factory

Hmmm, the later 3GSTE has no airbox resonator.... more reason to try and remove it.

Re: My GTS 8 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 60
Couple of little updates, have the car back on the road since the start of July, love being back behind the wheel!

One of the wheel studs on the rear sheared. It had always been cross threaded and finally had enough checked the part number for the stud and it was the same as the 00 corolla I have at home so helped myself to one of them. While I had the calliper off I greased up the slder pins and had a poke around to make sure all was moving freely.

Sheared stud..

Lubrication for the sliders..

Next it was on to the interior of the car, something that always annoyed me was the light grey roof-liner and t-bar shades. My friend recently dyed the roof-liner in his car and had some dye left over and offered to do mine for me...absolutely delighted with the results as it now matches the rest of the interior :)

Before (all stained and crappy looking)...

One coat of dye...

Finished...

He also sprayed the courtesy light and sun visor clips

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Here's the dye he used..
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

And fitted, hard to get a good pic but looks factory so I'm delighted :)

Wow great work on the interior. I presumed the MR2s were all black on the inside. My Corolla has the light grey roof too which is naff

Most Rev 1s are black fabrics with a thicker carpet.

Was considering waiting for a black roof lining but that has come out very nice. Where did you pick up the fabric paint? This car is very nice indeed. Engine bay is gorgeous

Nice job ... I always preferred the black roof lining, I managed a get a set years ago including the shades and visors. They are in my rev 3 now, much nicer than the grey i think

Couple of small updates..

Both side vents had damage on them. Passenger side was like it when I bought it and drivers side happened while car was off the road so I picked up some from the local scrap yard. They haven't been polished up yet and car is filthy but ye get the idea....

While I had the interior panels off I replaced the original speakers with ones I got from the breaker mr2. The originals were unusable as they had deteriorated to the point where they were crackling comstantly

Also, brought the car for the NCT yesterday and passed first time, absolutely delighted :cheer:

Good updates. The MR2 speakers drive me nuts, I ended up having to replace most of my speakers and upgrade some of the wiring. But once it gets going the sound is brilliant.

I'm back!

After buying a house and focusing on work for a couple of years it's finally time to get back to the mr2

I will finally be getting a shed to call my own for this winter so before that arrives, I've got some decisions to make.

I'm seriously considering returning the car to relatively stock condition and enjoying it as it came from the factory.

Does anyone know if standard turbo exhausts can be bought new anymore? I can't seem to find them
