I got this from the US a few years ago ... it was an original Denso part.

Nice one! Is it for a rev 3 turbo also? I will check the specs on mine anyway to see if it matches up

yes, mine is a rev3 turbo. All of the dimensions are provided also, so you can measure up against your old one.

Re: My GTS 5 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 60
So I got to work finally replacing the old damaged cv joint on the drivers side

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Cut the old one as the threads were damaged too badly to get the old nut off

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Back in the hub and ready to be greased and fitted

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

So having ticked off that messy job, I went ahead and ignored all the fantastic advice I got about suspension and ending up getting Tein Flex Z coilovers. To be honest my mind keeps changing as to what I hope to use the car for eventually and if I do decide to get involved in track days i'm hoping the coilovers will help future proof the car in terms of set up options

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The kit comes with shorter front droplinks but nothing for the rear so I picked up a new set for the rear also in the local parts shop

Got around to fitting the new coilovers, discs and pads

Old Yellowstuff pads vs new pads

Front & Rear coilovers and discs

And finally back on the ground and still looking sorry for itself

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Just wanted to get it back on the ground so its movable as next plan is to get a steel shed placed at the side of the house where it currently is to allow me to work on it over the winter.

Looking good man!
Never seen black brake disks (apart from carbon ones)

Keep a close eye on those coilover boots. Looks like it will rub against the spring an will wear out quicker.

Got my nem D2's , currently working out how to protect the pilowballs on top and bottom and also some extra protection for the top seal of the shock itself, in case some dust finds it way in.

Cheers

Re: My GTS 5 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 60
Thanks Juliuswws

The black on the discs is just a coating and will rub off completely pretty quick on the braking surface leaving them silver. It will stay on the edges and vents to help prevent corrosion.

The suspension will more than likely be coming off again once I get this shed built so I will be tidying up the boots and attaching drop links and arbs etc but just needed to get it rolling for the moment

Nice to have it back on the ground for a while though!

Re: My GTS 3 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 60
So the world's longest running project continues....

It's been a while since I've updated this thread due to general life things! Since I last posted, I've ordered and put up the shed where my car will now live as I try to find time to strip it down and begin giving it the attention it deserves.

If you've followed this thread from the beginning you will have seen that my MR2 has been a significant part of our lives so far, i.e. I proposed to my wife in the car after a lap of the Nürburgring after a road-trip across Europe. It then became our wedding car.

My wife and I have also welcomed our twins into the world in December 2019 so the preparation for that was my main focus for the last 12 months, but now I really want to get cracking on the car and bring it back to it's former glory as it holds a lot of special memories for us.

I'm no mechanic, so what follows will be a lot of trial and error so go easy on me as I'd like to do as much as I can on the car myself

Removed the nasty aircon rad

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Thankfully the coolant rad behind is in a bit better condition. This will still be getting replaced though

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Few pics of the frunk, I'll be removing any aftermarket stuff like the old speaker wiring and power that has been tapped into the fuse box. Also, I think a furry friend has been nibbling so if anyone can tell me what that connector is for before i do some digging I'd appreciate it

Some more updates, the strip-down continues!

No real signs of the dreaded rust as yet, the only bad part I've come across is the frame that the side vent covers on the passenger side

Long time no speak! Ya, you should update it if you get time. The Facebook groups are good but I find the site invaluable for how-to guides as well as being able to ask a question without getting ripped to shreds! Might take a while to get an answer but at least it's someone genuinely trying to help
