Eh, anyone got a diagram of all the pipes and hoses on the engine itself?
And will the engine still work properly if i dont connect them little solenoid switches?
Im forgetting where half the piping goes... not as easy as the electrical wiring.

Here are some useful diagrams/pics, they are for the earlier revision I know but still should be of some help. If you click any of the images they will enlarge.

Right guys got the engine back into the car today, test fitted the chargecooler and its not a great fit, might need to cut them small water pipe connections.
And does anyone know what the small pipe connection is? on the chargecooler, i can see from the old pics it had a pipe going to it but where was the other end connected to???

Also did the wire tuck, it was easier than i thought, just had to feed the wiring through the boot which then leaves the fuse box in the boot also the engine wires were long enough to reach into the boot and to the fuse box, delighted i didnt have to extend wires.
Unfortunately im now left with a big mess in the boot.

right lads went to turn the key to try start the engine and there is no spark...
The wiring going from the passenger footwell back to the engine was in a bit of a mess because there was an alarm connected into it, the starter wouldnt even turn over at first untill i connected the red wires together. anyone got some sort of diagram or something on what the different color wires are?? im just trying to get it back to stock.

I got a spark and fuel and got the car started , the igniter itself had to be bolted to the car, i had it lying in the boot because of the wire tuck im doing, ill need a wire for it now that goes to the distributor because the original one isnt long enough, any ideas??

Got the car on its wheels anyway, pumping away at the clutch, day 1... still pumping i wonder how long it will take this time lol.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Also instead of putting the rad up front for the chargecooler i decided to put it in the boot,

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Fans i had lying around from a chrystler voyager, plastic and dont rust :)

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Cut in half

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
And im sure you get the idea of what im trying to do now:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Air gets sucked in through the side vents and out the top through the boot lid, the rad will be bolted to the bootlid itself.

Re: 3SGTE rev2 to rev3 swap 9 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 154
Nice work so far!
One thing I would say though is imo I think the rad is better upfront. It was put there for a reason by toyota, as your driving the cold air is directed to it under the bonnet which aids in cooling etc. I do understand that it makes it much easier to pipe the CC to the rad.
I like that this idea is different and fair play for the ingenuity but if it were me I'd keep it in the front.

Great work well done. Here's another option

And use the fans to extract. Little over the top style wise for me but if function was top priority I would saw it would be the dogs

Re: 3SGTE rev2 to rev3 swap 9 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 72
@infamous the rad was put in front on the celica because the engine is there, so it makes sense, but on the mr2 maybe they would have ran pipes to the front like the coolant rad and maybe not, i dont know, they could have installed 2 smaller radiators at the side vents in the engine bay but that would involve more piping and might have been more expensive. I thought of the trunk idea because the heat from the engine wont affect and them fans i have can really move the air, i had them fans on another car and they melted the wiring lol. a little bit more power and the fans would fly, and they are pretty heavy. im sure there will be plenty of cold air to go around.

@got92tubby thats very interesting havent seen it before, if they werent that expensive i would buy them and have them facing backwards. i wonder what my reverse boot scoop will turn out like, once again expectations and reality can differ a lot.

@colm thanks man, im sure many would try if they had a roof over their heads while working on their car.

This was the scoop i expected to make in reverse but it already looks like its not gonna turn out like that.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
And here is that rear bumper which the lad is selling on ebay.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
I was thinking of no cutting holes in the bumper and have it suck the air from the gap left between the bumper itself and the car but it probably wont be enough air and the mud coming off the wheels will get sucked in, ill have to get some mudflaps too, after i get it finished it should be good at cooling down beer too :P

Re: 3SGTE rev2 to rev3 swap 9 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 72
Finished pumping the clutch today, took forever i gave up in the end and sat down to think.
The rubber lid on the clutch fluid reserve has another little rubber cap on top to let air escape, take that small cap off with a flat head screwdriver and put the big cap itself back on the reservoir, then grab an empty plastic coke, sprite or water bottle, take the lid off and put it upside down onto the rubber cap, keep it pushed down while squeezing the bottle while on the other end have a break bleeding kit, ive done it once and the clutch pedal already was hard to press down, never be afraid to pump the clutch again
Hope i didnt confuse anyone..

After the clutch started working i fired up the car, reversed out and started pouring in the water with some cooling system cleaner, there were a few lights on the dash and there is no charge going to the battery....

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
I got some jump leads and continued anyway, the car wasnt idling properly, the temp reached 80c. Here is a little vid i took...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpKyhM3Kwt0&feature=youtu.be
Im wondering why the car is idling like that..
Could it be the coolant pipes going to the throttle which i disconnected, i bypassed the throttle so the air wont be heated up by the coolant. What sensors are there on the throttle?
Or could it have anything to do with the 650cc injectors and sard fuel pressure regulator?
And the car cut out 5 min after that vid i took and wouldnt start again..

Well done lad fare play for getting it going. Could one of the breather pipes be blocked. Had something similar on a rev 1 Turbo or could it be the cams. They are longer duration came aren't they.

Re: 3SGTE rev2 to rev3 swap 9 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 72
Well the pipes i put on were all good with no junk blocking them, i just never ran the pipes from the oil catch and the one under the throttle to the intake, just wanted to get small air filters for them instead of having extra long pipes.

The cams are set at the markings and the bottom is at TDC 0 mark, i have everything at stock for now, just want the engine running properly first before i look into adjusting cams and stuff, i got a chance to set the spark to 10 before the engine cut out, it wasnt off by much so didnt make a difference.

Im wondering is there anything like a temp sensor or something for the choke on the throttle, because the water runs through some sort of sensor on the throttle and i disconnected them pipes so the throttle wouldnt heat up from the hot coolant, i did it because i read up someone done it on their rev3 na and didnt have a problem, did anyone ever try it on their rev3 turbo?

I would reconect the catch can for the moment you would be surprised how much breather pipes can throw the whole thing off.
