Which clusters are best? 1 Year, 7 Months ago

I'm thinking of replacing the front clusters (indicator/side light) at some stage and am just canvassing some opinion as to what kind of ones I should go for. I had initially thought of the clear ones, as most of the newer MR2's seem to have these and they look pretty smart, but mine is a 1992 model with orange repeaters and black trim...I'm not sure the clear lenses will suit it. Alternatively I do like the totally orange ones that you see on the Jap imports. Or of course I could just get a standard pair like the ones I have! Perhaps not the most exiting post to grace this forum but I still wouldnt mind hearing any opinions

I think most people on here like the crystal clears ... suits the car best in my opinion.
One of the cheapest effective mods you can do to the car :th:

I like the clear corners, however the all orange can look very good also (depending on the colour of the car). I've also seen some that are clear and orange blocks, I didn't like the look of that much - may be the US domestic style.

All orange won't pass the NCT, thats why you can get them with the clear sidelight section.

I was messing around with p'shop (inspired by Swagger) but couldn't get it to fit on the pic properly. It was when I was thinking of plotting out a big version in work (we have a A0 photo plotter) that I could stick inside the windscreen at the show on Sunday.

I really like the smoked ones actually, never considered them before. Would they suit red though?? Crystal clear are great looking but I think they dont really suit the Rev1 models as much as the later ones, I think it could be the contrast with the black trim perhaps. Like the all orange too but they are thin on the ground it seems...

@SPANKY, credit to mnixon for the pic/photoshop.

Thanks for the offer, most generous gotta admit though I'm thinkin more along the lines of the all orange variety...just think they suit the Rev1 best and are different too. Can always throw back on the old ones for NCT.

Thinkin of getting some all-orange indicator/side-lights off ebay. I presume they are easily compatible with std European ones?

All front lenses on all MK2's are the same, regardless or EU, USDM or JDM or revision.

You are lucky, legally in Ireland (and UK I believe) your side lights have to be clear. Maybe the particular tester let it slip or didn't notice.

I'm sure alot of the modern Volvos have orange sidelights...could be wrong.
Got my all-orange clusters yesterday anyway and think they look great. Def glad I didnt get the clear ones. I know i'm in the minority there though. Must remember to put in the old ones for NCT though just in case

Mine are all orange and passed the nct, i'd leave them alone for the nct, it'll only be a visual retest if they fail, no fee and you can get it retested anytime

Here you go Marty:

Handy enough to do, just use a good adhesive, silicone is no use. I used clear Tec7. The only job, I think the clear is actually called Trans7, as in translucent.

No worries Marty. No not yet, bought the car with plenty of NCT, I think it may be out end of this year though. I reckon it would be fine, not worried at all about that.
The entire Tec7 range will all be stocked together in the adhesive / silicone section of your local B&Q or equivalent. Think its approx 8euro a tube.

Technically they should be E marked for the European market. They may or may not pass depending how strict the person is that notices them.

Once you have good orange light coming out of them and they are E marked as Marty say there should be no issues, I have a set on mine and not an issue with the NCT. This is how they look on a black car.

I think that is even Rays car in the background, the silver one, also displaying the black lenses. They look even better again when complimented with the black toblerones, like the black one above and again on Rays machine.

Shame that the registration plate spoils the look on the black MR2.
