Pretty basic question here.. I am just wondering if anybody could tell me what the horsepower of my MR2 is? There seems to be a few different engine specifications and I'm unsure which bracket mine falls in to.

It is a 1992 N/A model, though I think it may have been built in Dec. 1991. I'm pretty sure that it is a Rev.2 as it does not have any of the tail-happyness that I would expect from a Rev.1, though I am only basing this on what I have read about them on here and elsewhere.

Throw up a photo of the engine and we will tell you, could be a 3s-fe or 3s-ge engine.
3s-fe ???
3S-GE 152bhp for a rev 2 AFAIK.

rev1 was the only one to have a 119bhp or 154bhp options.

rev2 is 154bhp from the factory

It changed rev in Dec91 so your could fall into either one. Chassis number is the best way to determine which you have ...

Revision 1 - December 1989 to December 1991
Chassis JT163SW2000000001 to JT163SW2000059265

Revision 2 - December 1991 to November 1993
Chassis JT163SW2000059266 to JT163SW2000087385
Spanky
boost is best...simples!!

Well this is a suprise. Just checked the log book and my chassis number falls into the former category, aka the Rev. 1 models. Funny because I have found the handling to be excellent on it and even when I pushed it v hard (in a quiet area of course!) it stuck to the road - none of the scary slippy slidey stuff that I have heard so much about, thank god.

She's the GS-GE Rev1 ! Slipsliderg is pretty spot on with the Bhp too. I too found the handling unreal. Originally came with 14" but I upgraded to the later Rev2+ 15" wheels. Did you read stories of the journalists who called the model unsafe and twitchy?!? I saw the same stories and laughed my ass off. They must of been drivin a different car or one without a production tuned suspension or something

Yeah I did read some of that alright, can't really say I have experienced any of that though! Those 15'' wheels are way nicer than the 14'' ones alright. I was half thinkin of reconditioning them sometime but not sure if it would be worth it...

So she's 154bhp??

I had a rev1 before I got the tubby it was a great car just keep good tyres on it and you'll not go wrong I had 17" wheels and Goodyear tyres and standard shocks on mine (avoid cheap springs will make the car as hard as a whores heart)

You probably read about the turbo. 245hp with that suspension set up was the scary one. The NA shouldn't pull out any real surprises on you as there is no boost kick in, just you and the boot!

Ya probably. I think they called it snap oversteer. But whats interesting is another journalist made a statement that - "with a bit of time driving the MR2, an experianced driver at the limits could use these driving characteristics to corner with more vigor" !?!
Not my words his. And in Japanese
So your prob just getting used to the car is all !
On a totally different note just another General Q - What does the orange MR2 Drivers insignia mean?

It's an MR2 side intake and yes, after watching the Drift Bible last night with some of the lads, a good pilot can use the MR2's characteristics to their advantage and really throw the car around the bends. You have to be a VERY good driver though, very experienced and very confident.
