Write Off! 2 Years, 2 Months ago

Well after only a month my 2 has been written off! Wont go into details, but basicly took bout a 20km hit to the passenger side.Still driving, and seems alright mechanicly, but the passenger side from the door back is knackered. Will post pics in a few days but basicly doubt its worth fixing. Its written off,so Quinn will own it once its settled, but im curious how much it could be worth in parts.
Apart from the passeger door/B-Pillar,rear quarter and possibly the boot/engine cover its in good nick. Some damage in the interior, and probably the chassis too,but only 108km on the clock on a 96 tub engine etc.
Not sure what the story with keeping it is yet,its sitting in my drive at the mo' cause im waitin on the log book to settle the claim.
Apologies to everyone for wrecking a solid 2,but i hope to replace it with another and be more careful.
Any comments appreciated,
Thanks,
Dr.M

Yeah but can only blame myself, and maybe the council for the road.Embarassed more than anything.I know your experienced in breaking so any advice on breaking value would be helpful...

Would need to get a full spec on it to be able to advise best mate. Idea or pre-accident condition, damage, history of car, aftermarket parts, etc...

Yeah I figured that, gonna see what Quinn think its worth and go from there. But basicly bout 80% of the panels are perfect, and the engine seems good and fairly unmodified.GReddy dump valve and turbo timer are the only mods i can see.
Not that familiar with the 2 so cant say too much. Will post pics soon anywho...

Sorry to hear about the write off, hope nobody got hurt. Mark it down as a cheap lesson even if it doesn't feel like it now.
MR2 / bumpy road / wet / heavy on the loud pedal = and spare parts.
If you do buy it back the rear clip should get you a bit of money. The rear clip is engine bay loom, tubby engine and ancillaries, g/box and driveshafts.
Somebody will buy that from you, as doing a tubby conversion on a N/A is simple then as its all just a bolt on affair.
I would be buying it but the finances arn't there at the minute and I am sure somebody here would love to get there hands on it.
Again hard luck on the crash and good luck with the next one.(edit: I don't mean good luck with the next crash )

Wow!
That's a shame Doc. I hope this doesn't put you off MR2 ownership!
Really sorry to hear that mate.
-------
[enter parts scavanger]
If you have any of the following on it I would like to buy them:
300kph speedo
Seats that have Recaro written on them
Spoiler from a 1998 MR2
[exit parts scavanger]
-------
Again very sorry to hear that and I would not be too quick to let Quinn take that car away from you. I think you could do very well out of the parts that you are selling, it seems that you could sell the whole engine/trans etc? I think I know someone who might be looking for one. Post up some pics and we can let you know what can be sold. If Quinn take it, it could possibly go to a crusher which would be a waste of many parts that Irish MR2 owners may be able to use..
Let me know if you need any help with anything.

Well i didn't think it right for me to say given the circumstance of it just happening, but since you have got in first... i'd give you a fair price for the complete car as it sits now

Sorry to hear that
As said - definitely a demand for the clip - I went for a NA to turbo conversion and had to go to UK to find one !
See what Quinn say - if they write it off, hopefully you may be able to buy it back for not much

I wonder would they believe the engine and gearbox just fell out somewhere on the road after the crash

Swap it for a busted 3sge, a hack job would take little time, but they will probably check all the paper work to make sure no's match up etc before they send it to the crusher.
Oh and again,

Thanks one and all for the sympathies and offers.
Been told it is a write off,but due to delayed/lost log book (not by me),hafta wait a while to get it settled and check what they want for me to keep it.
As mentioned, would like to save whats left from scrappage, but due to lack of space/facilities to break myself, would be easier to shift the whole car. Will post pics/specs soon, but if Pacman can take the whole thing im sure the bits could be kept in the family.
Hoping to get another when i get the claim cash so mite even get a few of'em back some day.Tho have a strong feeling i wont be able to afford insurance come next October!
Anyone near Tallaght who wants to see it in the flesh is welcome, jus gimmie a bita notice...

Finally gettin my claim sorted, long story...
Insurance only want e411 for the whole car so if anyone is willing to buy it off me let me know.Hafta shift the whole car as i need the space and preferaly soon. But with 'the big freeze' the battery totally died and seems to be past it,and it hasnt been started in weeks.
Anyone intrested or wants to know more can pm me...
Still a chance i might be getting another '2 so i mite even need parts myself at some point!
Cheers...

Damn if only I had the space! you've probably got 3 times that amount in parts that could be sold... you could try getting on to Joe the MR2 breaker in Galway, he might take it off your hands..

Could you send me pictures of the car if I PM you my email address, does it move on its wheels at the moment i.e. could I drive it up on a trailer if I had a battery. Or do I need to bring anything else to get the car rolling.
I am willing to collect it this weekend if that is quick enough for you, or if it is still available?
Will you drop me a PM either way, also if the car is written off, don't the insurance company own it and therefore I need to buy it from them or are you using the money you get to pay them. If so I will give you a bank draft in their name. Do you have the log book as well or have the insurer got it.
I know this may seem like nit picking but I could buy the car, pay you, and then the insurance company come knocking for their property. So I am just trying to make the exchange as clean as possible for all involved.
Cheers

Howdy all,
Pardons for the delay, was away, then looking for new wheels.Sadly I hadta let the insurance take my 2.Long story, but basicly I hadta shift it fast.Apologies to anyone intrested in it.
Anywho, ive just bought an Alfa 156,not quite a mk2 turbo, but after my write-off I realised I wasnt ready for a 2,or at least couldn't afford to insure one...
I hope to be back in the saddle as soon as the funds allow, but for now i must enjoy front-wheel drive mediocracy.
Thanks to everyone involved for their help, and i hope to be back soon.
Good luck to all 2-heads,
Niall.
