Ok Lotus have their heads screwed on right. Look at this Evora... This is what Toyota should be putting out as a Mk4 MR2, I heard it even has a Toyota engine in the back!:

If you're suffering from lag, you're either in the wrong gear or the wrong car!

It is a straight from the box toyota engine, the 2GR-FE it is rumored that lotus will have a 400bhp version with s/c developed as well as the n/a. This engine cannot be got in any car here.

The pic below is this engine from the Aurion with s/charger only available in Australia.

Taken from wikipedia.
"2GR-FE

2GR-FE engine in the 2008 Lexus RX 350The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. Bore remains at 94 mm but stroke is reduced to 83 mm. Reported output varies depending on the vehicle application, but is approximately 268 hp (200 kW) at 6200 rpm with 248 lb·ft (336 N·m) of torque at 4700 rpm on 87 octane (R+M/2). This version features Toyota's Dual VVT-i, variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. Valves are driven by roller-follower rocker arms with low friction roller bearings, and a unique, concave cam lobe design to increase valve lift over the traditional shimless lifter type system of the 1GR-FE. This increases overall cylinder head height to accommodate the slightly taller roller rocker system. Moreover, the cylinder head is segmented into 3 parts: valve cover, camshaft sub-assembly housing, and cylinder head sub-assembly. As such, this valvetrain is used across all other GR engines with Dual VVT-i. Its service weight is 163 kg.

Applications:

2005 Toyota Avalon (GSX30)
2006 Toyota Aurion (GSV40)
2006 Toyota RAV4 (GSA33/38)
2006 Toyota Estima (GSR50/55)
2006 Toyota Previa (GSR50)
2006 Toyota Tarago (GSR50)

2007 Lexus RX 350 (GSU30/35)
2007 Toyota Harrier (GSU30/31/35/36)
2007 Toyota Vanguard (GSA33)

Maybe in a year or two, you'll have the first Supercharged 2GR in your mk2

With Gouky's s/c kit, I'd say it'd be a drive-in/drive-out of Woodsport with an all-in cost of 10k.

The only thing which worried me recently was this snippet I found :

"The Lotus lineup of four-cylinder engines in the Elise and its derivatives plus the Evora V6 complies with current fleet limits, but will shortly exceed EU limits and require modifications"

I hope they won't screw you on tax. There are too many unknowns for a V6 for me at the mo - running cost/tax, NCT, insurance.

I think a 400whp 2.3 stroker makes more sense

Nope three years and counting & it will be the Mrk I, wouldn't waste the power on a heavy weight mrk II , but the Mrk I might snap in two then I will have to put it into the Mrk II so perhaps in time your right.

As for the FT-86 I hope it comes to us in current guise with the Subaru boxer engine. I would gladly change the hi-lux for it and pay the benefit in kind. AFAIK this is the new AE-86 (twin-cam, not that Irish people need an explanation) oh please god let it be all it purports to be.

Looks great
2.0 boxer engine, heads reworked by Toyota (aka yamaha)
FR layout
Circa 180 BHP
1100 kgs

All that = sweet for a road car.

^ I may be wrong on that, i had heard before that they were going to make one car and sell it as a subaru in europe and toyota in japan. But after a quick google it looks like they'll both be selling a version of car just with slightly different styling??

Re:Toyota take note 2 Years ago Karma: 262
hmm, so if they pull the same stunt with an MR2 Mk4 then we'll eventually be talking about flat 4's and have Subaru guys over here? either that or we'll all be on the Subaru forum
