Insurance - what are you paying? 2 Years ago

What is the craic people, havnt been on here in a while, due to college commitments.
Just wondering what price are you paying for insurance on your 2?
Got my quote from Hibernian recently - €1100, up from €900 last year. Shopped around some online sites and both Quinn and 123.ie are the best so far coming in at around the €800 mark. Just wondering does anybody know - do these companies allow driving of another car when being insured by them? I know Hibernian allowed this, it was handy to just jump into a mates car and drive when the MR2 was being fixed.
I will try and get Hibernian down to that as they should be well fit to match €800 in my opinion.
Car is Rev3 1994 N/A, 4 years no claims, driving licence held for 7 years, no points and im 24.

Thats a serious decent price for turbo insurance, did you have to request that third party extension or is it automatically in every Quinn policy do you know?

well i rang and asked them about transfering my insurance for a few days and they said they do this third party extension so that you can drive any car without the owners permission as long as its nct'd.ya its a good price alright.im probably jus gonna go fully comp anyway this time coz its only bout 150 extra.

From my experience, the only time you need to transfer youre insurance is if the car (friends car etc) isnt insured, but otherwise you should be allowed to drive anybodys car as 3rd party as long as you get their permission to drive it, My quote is 980 but i wrote off someones car a about 4 yrs ago but turbo was coming in at the same price as a N/a which made my mind up to go for a turbo, If you want fully comp on your friends car then he has to ring his insurance company and put you on his poilicy as named driver.

Quinn giv out the best quotes, but they screw ya on evrytin else.. 2yrs ago i got a quote of €1030 on a Rev 2 Turbo, never taut bout no claims protection, car was burnt 2 a crisp so claimed it bck, bastards took 4yrs no claims and increased me policy 2 €1756... Needless 2 say, i left Quinn, now i am insured 4 €125 on my MK1 "1987" and hopefully getn a Rev 1 "1990" on Thursday, insurance on dat will b €220... In dis recession crunch, old skool is d way forward As u all shud b aware, u must b ovr 25, full licence, and hold a valid evryday use policy 2 avail of classic insurance Hibernian shud reduce der price a bit, but i tink u hav betr cover wit dem either way, ie: break down, windows, locks & keys etc....

Its 20yrs for classic insurance, 30yrs for vintage.. Ive nevr heard of any1 doin it at 15yrs!!!
@ Quandry, as above for year of car, and u can travel up to 5K miles in a year.. Only catch wit it is, its only 3rd party fire and theft, so any mistakes on d road cud be costly 2 urself... I drive mine evryday. I 4got 2 mention an addtional €25 charge, its for a vintage owers club for d year "IVETA" IRISH VINTAGE ENGINE & TACTOR ASSOCIATION...

I had a look into this last month, and it really depends on luck, someone like www.brophys.ie stipulate the car must be 25 yrs old or 21 yrs if you already have it insured as classic, but then ive heard of people getting a quote through them for a younger car via AXA who refused it in the 1st place, Aviva(hibernian) are '88 or lower with <5,000 miles a year, first ireland were 20yrs but offered different mileages, and others stipulate that you must also be part of a classic cars member club, as well as have a daily commute car insured, The best bet is to ring direct rather than go online as you may get a nice person at the other end which would make a difference, once you get your 1st policy on the car then it seems to be alot easier from then on, In the end I parked up my Almera and just insured the 2 and claimed back the motor tax on the almera to pay for tax on the 2, I may have a look at it again in april but its really the tax end of it that doesnt make it too worth while for me, would be interested to know how you get on and what response you get from the various companys

Just a quick reply to say I got insured with Quinn Direct at €753 for rev3 n/a 4 years no claims and driving for 7 years, third party fire and theft, cheapest quote I could find, and yes I'v heard they're policies may be the worst if a crash occurs, but unfortunatly money talks more these days.

Wow. I have heard insurance in the UK is outrageous. I guess it depends on the exchange rate at the time too. When I first got my MR2 turbo the insurance was about $1300 per year. I was 24 at the time. In the US insurance drops drastically at 25 or when you get married.
Now I am 35 and my wife and I pay about $3000 per year TOTAL for:
2008 Nissan Pathfinder
2007 Toyota Tundra 5.7 V8
1991 Toyota MR2 NA automatic (liability only)
1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo on classic policy with $18,000 agreed coverage
1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo on classic policy with $12,000 agreed coverage
1978 Ferrari 308 GTS on classic policy with $26,000 agreed coverage
The classic policy limits my mileage to 3500 miles per year on the turbo MR2's and the Ferrari, but now that I am a grown up (haha) with a kid it's not a problem since we usually drive the Tundra or Pathfinder.

Haha. It's actually a really nice little car. It's 1 or 2 owner, perfect interior. Great commuter, gets 30+mpg on the freeway. I've got plans for though, including a complete 5 speed (and gen 3 + TD06) swap.

Well if you're modifying, why not stick with the auto and pop in a V6?.... Would still be a good cruiser that way.

Taken from the AA web site
Cover for classic and collectors' cars
Trying to find cover for your classic car? If you're over 25 years old and your car is standard build, over 15 years old and you do less than 7,500 miles a year,

Looked into this just now "as i was insuring my 1990 2" Here's the price's ive been quoted for different age cars:
15 - 19 years €320
20 - 24 years €220
25 + years €125
Plus €25 for membership in Vintage Club
Must be 25yrs with full licence, hold normal day to day policy, 5000miles, third party only...

Who did you get this from, can you give me the phone number and a name to contact. I need to insure my car and am getting quotes from €700 to 1400 euro. The figures you quote are much nicer.
Now I need to transfer ownership to my misses pronto.

I think Amps is refering to the south as his price quotes are in €€€€. This could be an item of considerable value to the members on the site as it would drop at least 75% of the members insrance costs.
