Insurance 2 Years, 5 Months ago

Okay, not sure there is much we can do to get a deal with an insurance company but we're looking into it.
In the meantime, might be an idea for people to post up who they are with, how many years with them, how many years drivng, full/provisional licence etc and quote you have. NOTE do no post names, regs etc !
I'll start
I started off with St Paul (only compay who would take me on my first MR2) and then moved onto Hibernian after a year or two. Was with them for 6/7 years and insurance on my MR2 turbo was always in and around 700-750 (TPFT).
In year just gone, I got my sw20 Spider and Hibernian put my insurance up to 1070 ! (sw20 Spider is clssified as category X because they never heard of it !).
Anyway, went to St Paul / Travellers (not a halting site !) through 123.ie and got a fully comp quote of only 518 euros Car is insured as a G-Limited with a note on it to say it is a convertible.
I'm 39, been driving a long time, max no claims bonus, full licence.

900 euro, fully comp with other vehicle driving and pretty much any other extra you could think of including open drive for drivers over 28 (28 - where'd they pull that figure from), with AXA direct. I'm just gone 30 with 7yrs+ NCB and 2 points ( that I got in a poxy ford transit connect). I'm happy with that. O that's on a Mk3 btw.

2 years no claims, mr2 turbo, 23 years old, 1200 i think it was this year for me (TPFT), Its pretty good, probably because i live in the arse hole of nowhere but i definatley can't complain with the price, i'll be shopping around come renewal time in December though. Oh and i'm with Quinn Direct too, the only people who would even think about insuring me.

Hmm you should try Ladystar or something, I think they're more pro-girl drivers.
If it helps any, my insurance dropped a lot after I hit 30 and 5 years ncb.
Welcome to the board

Hey!! From Baldoyle, have had my N/Turbo for almost 2 yrs! I'm with Hibernian and they're creasing Me Big Time, I rang around loads, St Pauls, Britton, 123.ie, Quotme.ie, Quinn..... I've a pain in my Ass now at this stage, but I love the Car too Much to not have my Fully Comp and the Extras You get with Hibernian! I'll wait till I turn 30 in 4months and see what happens then!!
You all headin to Jap Fest???

If you're getting silly quotes then call First Ireland. They are brokers and get a better rate. When I first moved to Ireland none of the 'cartel' would take my Australian insurance history so it was as if I'd never been insured. First Ireland got me a good deal and on the insurance ladder. They're worth a shout.

Thank god i don't live south of the border those prices are shocking. I'm 36 full NCB, 3 points for speeding (bar stewards got me overtaking a lorry at the end of an overtaking lane) and i just paid £342.50 fully comp with protected NCB for my Rev3 tubby. Would have been even cheaper but for my address......

who are you with now? Quinn seem to be the best for young drivers and that quote you got seems very decent so i'm gonna put my neck out and say you're already with Quinn?

If you can get an older relative to insure it and then get listed as a named driver you might get a better deal... you also then get to build up your 'driving history' in the insurance companies eyes.
Unfortunately you get slapped with insurance costs on any car in Ireland until you're 30+

Wow its amazing how different some of those prices are!!!
Im 24, 4 years NCB, in Dublin subs with every extra possible on the policy.
Mine was €2,500 last year comprehensive then when renewal came round in Feb 09 it went down to €1,300 including the 10 monthly payment option. Rang to see if something was wrong (cos of the price drop) and the lovely lady brought it down to €1,000. Didnt even ask for it
oh yeah its a 95 tubby insured with hibernian!! YES HIBERNIAN!!

20 years old, you have to join a classic club and get a garage to look at it and stamp form.
The snag is, you also need a daily car insured, so your classic is your second car and milage is limited. Otherwise, the insurance would be about 330 euro (36 and full ncb no points),
The company is called o'Riordan in cork.
This means 1990 mk2 turbos/na will be classic next year!!
