Right, was getting gearbox oil and bushings done and mechanic found something that scared the hell out of me. The rear passenger side HUB has about 1 inch of play! its terrifying. its like looking at the front wheels when someone is turning the steering wheel.

So, is the driveshaft and hub for the MR2 the same across the range ie REV 1, 2 and 3 and N/A or tubby?

It always felt a little loose but i just thought it was the tracking gone

N/A and tubby drive shafts are different as for the hub end spline mating between a tubby shaft and an N/A I am not so sure. AFAIK if I was to upgrade my n/a to a tubby I need the drive shafts and hubs from a tubby car.

Sounds to me like somebody has taken two different halfshafts and mated them in the CV joint. Alot of the toyota CV joints can work like that. For all you know it could be a halfshaft from a celica/camry etc mated to a MR2 original halfshaft.

Thats how the Mrk I turbos are created using different half shafts from different car to make up the correct length. Yours sounds like a bit of "oh it will do"

Ask your mechanic to measure the drive length he thinks it should be and then ask Joe for his measurement just to be sure before you buy. And make sure its like for like regarding N/A or tubby, not sure what your car is.

Cheers for the KC, hope it works out for you and I havn't sent you the wrong direction.

i would get a price of a new one. the way i look at it is how old is the 2nd part you putting and if you going to get the part how much is it going to cos to either go out and get or recive it on top of price of part. how long you going to keep the car is 2nd going to cost more in the long run, but me personally wen it comes to running gear i buy new.
