What do you like about MR2.ie?? 1 Year, 11 Months ago

Following on from Spidey's idea about an article in MR2Only about this website I thought I would start this thread asking hte obvious question ...
What do you like about this website???
For me, its the informal and friendly attitude that everyone who regularly posts here seems to have. I have tried to involve another MR2 club in our Irish meets (as RedMK1 will confirm) but only met a frosty reception, hopefully they will change their minds in the future. I had no such frosty reception on here. From the first time that I met Spidey and the rest of you for the Christmas dinner we (MR2OC members) were all welcomed into your group, as you were with us, with good friendships already being formed.
This has quickly evolved into the combined monthly meets, organised by one club or the other, which are going from strength to strength. Hopefully this combined effort will continue as it can only be good for MR2 owners in Ireland.
There is always good craic on the forums with no egos (that I've seen) at play at any time. It is simply a great website with great members that all seem to get on and unite with the joint interest of our little Jap cars.
I think that's a glowing enough tribute to all involved with this site.
Now your turn ...............

I like the fact hat it's chilled and there's no drama bombs. It looks alot better than the other sites aswell. Or maybe it because I post on here.......... What were you saying about ego?

I joined in December as an ex Mr2 owner with the thoughts of getting my next one: After my 1st week surfing the boards my thoughts hounded me 24hrs a day until I got my 2 a week later, I would have previously been happy to let the mechanic do every job on the car no matter how small or large rather than do it myself, but have found I have done everything myself so far, from drilling out fogs, to replacing aerials, lights, etc etc,all of which are small jobs but bit by bit i'm learning thanks to all the posts from members looking for help or info on the tinyiest problems to the still gobble-dee-gook bigger issues that Quandry, Spidey, Slipslider discuss, but I still read. I find the site really helpfull in that way.
I'd also agree with Spanky that us southern members are much better drivers with better cars than his northern lads & lassies, (Shite, I meant sense of humour on the site is great), I've been to a mini meet in Blanch and a meet in Carlow which was a great feeling just to be on the road in convoy and meet up with the faces behing the Avatars. I'd advise all new members to feel at home and post up any problem no matter how small or big it is because you'll definatelty get a quick relpy and sound advice from members (No "Marital problems " or "How long should I cook my 10lb chicken in the oven for ").

same as what's already been said tbh. great bunch of guys who obviously have a great love of the car. there's great banter and none of the bitching that's on the other mr2 forums, it gets really tired after a while

I like the fact that we can buy and sell parts/upgrades in Ireland without incurring unnecessary shipping costs to buy stuff from the UK that we could have got locally.
We can also help each other and talk about issues that are important to Irish MR2 owners, it seems small but is so relevant compared to just being 'tagged on' to other International boards.
We can encourage the MR2 community in Ireland to grow and in doing so improve the quality of service, parts availability, and options for ourselves.
I also like that we can get together for a chat, have a laugh and talk cars without being looked at as some kind of weirdo or boy racer

+1 on what everyone has said so far.
Basically, easy going and great bunch of lads/lasses and great being able to meet with mr2oc owners as well.
We all like MR2's but sometimes you have a bad patch where you have successive problems or a big to-do list. I think the forum and meets keeps the enthusiasm going.
Big thanks to Quandry for the work in setting up the site - KCFY

Very well said Spanky!
Yeah besides the obvious, ie, the site is well designed and managed and easy enough to use, there is the simple bones of it all. A place where lots of similarly minded people with the same interests and perversions and taste in cars can put their heads together, exchange knowledge, ideas, parts and slaggings from the comfort of their own home. Its a fantastic website and club and any member I have met so far has been nothing short of a polite, friendly and extremely helpful individual. Its a place that can harvest long lasting friendships and get you out of the house for bit!
Im afraid this thread is going to get a bit soppy, but...ah go on then!!

What do I like, everything about the club, seriously I do!
I started to write a reply yesterday and then realised that I was actually doing a dairy of my MR2 life rather than a reflection on the club. Anyhugh that may turn into a blog type thread in time with additions at each phase of my MR2 experience passes.
So back to business.
1.Web page setup; nice to look at, effective and simple to navigate. A credit to Quandry well done and KC’s for you.
2.Members: everybody seems to be a good bunch, interested in each other’s cars, knowledgeable, and willing to lend a hand when needed (Glenner), there is a willingness within the club to support each member in whatever way we can without the bull that comes from some sites about, N/A’s vs. tubbies vs. V6’s, modified vs. stock etc
3.Cross web site communication, this is where we have it nailed in the head IMO. We have one of the only clubs with a list of other owner’s clubs links across the site banner. Because of this we all learn more about what can be achieved from another member’s perspective and thus add to our knowledge and experience. This will ultimately allow each individual member develop/modify or de modify their cars with a wide base of knowledge and hopefully help them make the most cost effective choices. Thus the club gains in its maturity at a faster rate because of everyone’s open minded attitude.
Quandry and Spidey congratulations on your creation and management of this site and thank you for giving me a club in Ireland where I can talk to like minded fiends

Biggest advantage of this site is that its Irish! Alot of the time the information given regarding specialists, parts suppliers, etc was UK based and redundant for our part...
That and its the friendliest place I've been to bar none! Everyone is always helping out and I can't wait to get to a few meets and start putting faces to names!

This forum is unlike any i've ever seen! Everyone is so SOUND and willing to share their time and knowlege! unlike some others that like to horde it for their own benifit or when they really dont have a clue and are full of sh~t! Perfect example is Ray picking my interior crap up 6 months ago from beyond Belfast and he asks for nothing in return! Just a sound man! Obviously favour will be returned upon request but as an example shows how bang on every one on here is! Hope to make next meet to meet ya'll (esp now i got the car working right )

Thankfully this thread didn't backfire It could have been very embarrassing if:
a) no one responded
or
b) there was negative responses
I am glad to see I am not the only one who likes the way this site operates.
Keep the good comments coming
As for you DShamrock ....

I think in general the mr2 clubs are very friendly communities but this one is the pick of the crop The best part is that there isn't anyone using the site to stroke their own ego which I find on nearly every other forum. There are no admins thinking they are all high and mighty. I think it says something about the site that in 6 months i have about 550 posts on here, I've been a member for at least 18mths on all the main mr2 clubs and I've probably posted <300 between them all. It's also great how quickly people get replied to, for a club with 20-30(?) active users vs. clubs that have 50-100+ members online at any given time, the response time on here is a real credit to people who use the site

So basically, we all rock as people.
My actual single favourite thing is the lack of KC bullying. HEHEHEHEHEEEE!!
