MR2 Ownership in Ireland 1 Year, 9 Months ago

Hello,
Just found the forum. I dont actually have an MR" but I recently sold my car and have about a grand to spend. I don't know whether that would be enought to get anything approaching a decent MR2 but I've always loved these cars so said I would suss it out.
So whats it like to own an MR2 in Ireland?? Are the ownership costs as big as I would imagine??
At the moment I have my eye on this one in Tipperary... cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1297832. 1600 but would sell for 1200...
High milage kinda worries me though...
I'm from Crok but living in Arklow so it would be difficult enough for me to check out. Dont suppose that there is anybody here from that direction that may be able to have a look at it for me?? Just said id ask anyway.
Sorry I know thats alot of questions! Just want to make sure I am making the right move.

Hi there, welcome to the club. Owning an mr2 isn't much more expensive than any other car from what I've found, obviously you can spend €€€€'s on mods but my car has been relatively trouble free in the 2yrs I've had it and in general they are good solid cars. If €1,000 is all you have to spend then I would wait and save up more, buying a car for €1,000 is going to need some work done or probably will soon, you'd be better off saving up and getting one in better condition, the donedeal link doesn't bring up any mr2's so I can't see the one you're looking at

Yeah that's working now Looks decent enough from the pics, bonnet and bumper look different colourwise so it may have had a front ender, take out the spare tyre from the front and look for crumpling. I'm sure if you brought that to the right valet they'd have it looking like new. The mileage is high alright I wouldn't be overly worried, I have seen mr2's with double that
a member on here, THETOOMWAL, is from Tip, big county though, I'm not sure if that's near him

I asked the seller about the colour differentiation alright. He said it was just the paint that was faded and a t-cut might bring it up a bit. You think 1200 is a decent price??
i'll look that guy up and see what he says. thanks

If you got it for €1,200 I think you'd be happy with it but make sure you give it a very thorough check, check that absolutely everything is working as it should. Buy with your head, not with your heart. Check out buying guides here: www.mr2oc.co.uk/know-your-2/22-general-info.html

Hey lads,
There I was all excited about the possibility of owning my fist MR2, my dream car as a kid, until this morning when I rang for an insurance quotation. Almost 1000 euro from quinn. I'm 26 with 2 years no claims. Anybody recommend any other insurance companies or is this the best I can hope for??

Someone told me Axa are doing great deals at the moment. However as Dave said, the market rates are high, so I am not sure if you would see much of a drop. I think once you get more years of no claims behind you then you will see the better discount coming through..
The quotes we got on my wifes Scenic were high also, so I don't think it's just MR2s...

Drove home in the MR2 today...some nice feeling having wanted one for years. At the moment the only prob is a blown bulb in the dash! Many thanks to Colm for checking it out for me, wouldnt have got it otherwise I'd say. Oh I haggled my way to 1150...it all counts! Not a bad price I thought. Thanks again to everyone.
