Well I may as well say hello, it would be rude not.
I've got a 1992 turbo t-bar the last five years, but I've been driving the boxster the last 2 years.
Anyway some pics.

Welcome aboard mate and fair play for introducing yourself. Watch the board for meets, you are more than welcome along. We usually meet one Sunday a month for a proper meet and go somewhere, but at least twice a month, on a Thursday, we have a mini meet at the McDonalds in Blanch. Dont know if that is anywhere near you, but if so, come along. The Boxster is very nice, but try bring the 2 if possible!

the terenure show, I'd say it's the best car show of the year. I've been a few times with the mx5 club.
I'll be there but just looking.
The mr2 has been in storage the 2-3 years so no tax or nct, maybe next year.
As far as I know you can enter on the day but it cost more.

No problems with the Boxster from me anyway, now all we need to do is harangue you into putting the 2 back on the road. For the following reasons,
1. Quandry, will have another SMG MR2 to talk about body colours with.
2. Spidey, can encourage you to do just one more mod, the last one I promise!
3. Mnixon, can persuade you to get up at unholy hours of the morning to go for photoshoots.
4. Slipsliderg, can tell you to leave it as OEM as possible, while buying any parts you may be removing due to Swagger's influence.
5. Swagger, can tell you to Modify it as much as possible, wink.
6. Dshamrock, will sell you anything that can be bought for MR2's on ebay.
7. MR2Gal, will tell you to hurry up.
8. Spanky, will cook for you and adore your OEM turbo.
To all the other members I missed please add your own comments.
Most of all, if you need anything or help before you put the 2 back on the road, this is the source and fountain of MR2 knowledge in Ireland.

Ah a bit of craic.... some sites/clubs iwon't mention are a bit stuffy and serious.
Anyway the plan is to get the mr2 in over the next winter and give it a good going over, engine out and do the clutch and what ever engine seal need to be done.
Did the same last year with the boxster www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=41520
As for Horsepower the boxster has 204 which is near enough the Mr2.
I find the MR2 understeers alot...that down to the tyres?

Cant see the Boxster link without signing up, but regards the bit of craic? Ye, you will find that here, nobody is too serious, always taking the piss. The way I see it, this is meant to be fun and enjoyable, we are here out of passion for the cars and for a hobby and a release. We get enough shit from work and the misses without this being too regimental. Everyone is dead sound.
Oh and Ray, seriously man, you are the most poetic bloke I know, well written as per usual. Cant wait to show you the latest mods, well this weeks ones anyway!!

Oh, to have the space (and time) to do an engine project
Yes, Mr2.ie is all about having a bit of craic. We're not a club - just a forum servicing a comunity. And as Swagger said, its all light-hearted.
The only rules we have are "play fair and have fun"
MR2's are fun cars - but its the meets etc that really make you enjoy owning one

BTW your query on understeering, oh and I am prone to go on and on about some of this stuff.
The Mrk II is know to understeer, the Rev 1's didn't so much and was more in line the the handling of the Mrk I. But the Mrk II, Rev 1's were also refered to as "widow makers" much like the older 911's due to the press of the day's, inability to drive a good handling car.
The Rev 1's may have handled to well though, as the later revisions all came with chassis changes to allow for a more neutral drive and thus understeer was the result due to the fear of "snap oversteer"
I think that with a bit of time and practice you can get rid of alot of the understeer by:
-Ensuring the tyres make and model, are the same all round will help.
-Optimising you tyre pressures to suit your driving style, also changing it for winter / summer helps.
-Install camber adjustment bolts and get a proper alignment expert to set up the car in a nuetral way for you then drive the car, then have it adjusted again to suit your style of driving.
My Rev 3 only understeers on slow roundabouts or tight corners when trying too hard to go fast instead of being fast. "Slow in fast out"
Appendix:
Snap oversteer for the unlearned amoung us, although you can't drive an MR2 hard and not have experienced this at some stage IMO.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap-oversteer
"Lift-off oversteer (also known as snap-oversteer, trailing-throttle oversteer, throttle off oversteer, or lift-throttle oversteer) is a form of oversteer in an automobile that occurs when the vertical load on the tires shifts from the rear to the front quickly due to throttle release while cornering. This decrease in vertical load causes a decrease in the lateral force generated by the rear axle, so the axle starts to accelerate towards the outside of the turn. This steers the car more tightly into the turn, hence causing oversteer. In essence, this means that easing off the gas causes the rear wheels to break away suddenly, with the potential for the car to leave the road tail first."
So don't lift off the gas mid corner, if you are that far into the corner you will probably get around it anyway. If you lift of the gas you may be tail ended by a tree that was previously at the side of the road.
To all: the previous statement is my opinion only and you are responsible for how you drive and how capable you are. The methods to deal with and drive a MR or RR car are quite different from other cars and are best learned in an closed track environment.

In the Rev 3+ editions (late 1993 on), Toyota changed the springs and shocks for a lower and more positive feel to the handling.
If you are still on the RevII supsension, it's probably a bit tired. I have Rev3 spec springs/shocks on my RevII but my bushings are looking ooooolllldd, so that and some TRD sway bars are on my shopping list.

Thanks for the info lads.
What are the correct tyres for the car? or in your experience the best?
I had Bridgestones on the back and they where great never a hint of letting go
even in heavy wet weather but they only lasted about 6,000miles.
The aligment/setup you are right, i swear by. It makes a big difference
and had it done a couple of times on the mr2.
Am i right in thinking it has Bilsten suspension.
A 1992 car i would have said it's tired too.
But in my car i reckon it's in grand nick.

I'm pretty sure all JDM MR2's had Bilstein but I could be wrong..
I'm running Kumho 245/40s on a 17X8 +38 rim. I have also never had any indication of the back stepping out wet or dry. Ideally I will change to a 17x9 +35 rim to make the tire work a bit better though.
You get Bridgestone on a Ferrari F1 car so they can't be that bad

Bridgestone have always had a good reputation on MR2's. I have a mix of tyres on my car at the moment, Goodyear (efficentgrip!!)on the front and Hankook (ditchfinders, unjustified IMO)on the back. More to do with availbility of tyres when urgently needed. Both of these have to much flex either in the the thread pattern or sidewalls or both, however when you get over the initial fright they grip ok.
Next set of tyres will be Toyo's
It hard to find a set of tyres for the standard 15's for an MR2 these days, Toyo will provide front and rears in the correct fitment and have a good name. Not so sure if other manufacturers can do the same.

The bridgestone where great it's just they didn't last long only 6 to 7,000 miles and they cost 276Euro each yes i said 276 euro each at the time.
I'll have to uprate the brakes and do the clutch when putting it back on the road.
Anyone else uprate their brakes?

Mostly if you get a good set of pads in there that is fine for street driving. There are big brake kits around e.g. Wolfkatz and Wilwood. They put massive stoppers on an MR2 but you would want to be doing track work to justify the cost.
