Wow! looks superb Trev. I'm digging that WRX powered beetle too!

Do you do rust repairs as a hobby or for work? seems like a very professional job.

Happy New Year and Welcome to the site!

Very impressive work and nice mk1

Do you spray the cars as well as the bodywork ? You could have a queue for some nixers

Welcome to mr2.ie.

thanks for the welcome guys

No I don't do this for a living, the cars are just a hobby for me, my background is in old VWs, you'll have seen from my site linked above that I have the Subaru beetle (very much a project still ) the '74 VW camper, the VW Derby, I also have a '73 beetle and a '76 Passat project too. They're the ones I own. I take on jobs from time to time too, I currently have a '76 beetle in for a restoration, I've almost finished my end of the job (the rust repairs, the owner is getting it prepped and painted professionally).

The MR2 was (is) my brother-in-law's, it was one of those jobs that started out as a freshen up but turned into a full respray etc. In fairness, I enjoyed the change from the VWs and he supplied all the parts and paint etc to me. The genuine Toyota left rear quarter was a pleasure to fit compared to the aftermarket repair sections on the other side. The inner rear wings took a lot of rebuild work, as did the front valance. I was delighted with how it turned out, so was the brother-in-law It's gone back to him in Wales now, he has another Mk1 MR2, a series 2 in black. I don't know that much about them but he assures me a factory black mk1 MR2 is relatively rare? Anyway, I'll be giving that the same treatment for him soon, maybe next year.

I was a bit sad giving it back to him, I drove it a few times before getting into the restoration and then to the church for him the day of his wedding, they really are lovely cars to drive. I would consider getting one for myself but I might wait til they go beyond the 30 year old mark and avail of the NCT exemption and cheap tax etc

I don't want to be canvassing for business but if anyone wants a couple of small jobs done sure let me know and we'll talk about it. I'm not really set up for painting, I was able to get some two-pack paint for the MR2 and it took a lot of polishing to get a good finish on it so I wouldn't be in a hurry to paint another car but maybe a panel or two mightn't be too much hassle.

Nice one Trev. I have a 'suspect bubble' on one of my sills that I wouldn't mind getting looked at (a common spot for Mk 2's). Might give you a shout around February or so..

Great work on the VW's and if you're ever tempted for a Mk1, get one of the factory supercharged ones
