I remember some of yous were looking for a detachable towbar.
The lads doing welding beside me here in Longford behind the toyota dealers do them for 100e
I got mine done today and im delighted with it, its hidden behind the numberplate when you dont need it, little bit of the bumper has to be cut away but thats hidden behind the numberplate too. Also adds more strength to the back of the car if someone crashes into it.
I got it done for my little speedboat for the summer, another good use is for a small trailer for tyres, tools, jack, small compressor and petrol if you wanna drive the mr2 to mondello.
Just take off the numberplate and bolt on the towball:

As for weight i asked him today he said it will defo pull 1ton.
I think a buggy wont be a problem.

It was a lovely warm day today so i thought id pull the boat out to get it ready for the summer and test the tow bar while im at it.

A bit off topis but can I ask why the cover on the boot lid, is it because you have the intercooler in the cut out boot floor?

Yeah its easy enough, it only takes the lads about an hour to properly weld it on if your bumper is already removed.
Im happy with it anyway, cheaper than buying one off ebay for around 500 which is only held on with the small bolts that hold the exhaust in place and it sticks out a little too.

I have the radiator in the boot for the chargecooler, I didnt cut the floor, the only cutting done is to the bootlid which can always be replaced.

Yeah i remember someone asking about it on here but the thread didnt get far and some people thought it would be stupid to put a tow bar on an mr2, and i may have proved them wrong

I thought it was a pretty good idea anyway and went ahead with designing a tow bar and in the end I came up with this design.
It welds on but the 2 parts it welds to can be removed and bolted to a different mr2 if you ever need to do that, so u only need to pay for it once and u can keep it even if you choose to sell the car
because i dont think you will get extra money if you sell it with the towbar.

Im also planning on doing something like this since i have a crashed mr2 with a perfect back end

It wont be done any time soon.
It might be done towards the end of summer if everything goes well.
Lots of head scratching and measuring will be needed before i start cutting the car, i dont want to cut in the wrong place.
And ill throw up a thread when i do it because i havent seen anyone put one up.
