Quick Steer Pinion - Potential Issue 6 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 35
Hi guys,

I was one of the people that bought the quick steer pinion off MartyJ on here. During the install the pinion seems to have broken and I lost all steering in the car not long after bringing it for a test drive!!

I have been speaking with MartyJ about the issue and initially he replied and was to get in touch with the manufacturer (who came back with an initial washy comment with further info to given). I have not heard anything in the last 3+ weeks and I have sent back my pinion to MartyJ.

Currently still waiting on an update as I have spent quite a bit of money on the pinion and also on the install and then the reinstall of the old pinion.

So for now I would warn everyone to be careful about the pinion or give there feedback on how it has been working for them.

Regards
Barry

NOte: At no stage am I placing blame on Martin in regard to this I just want a resolution and confidence that others wont experience the issues I have. Dont want to hear of an accident due to the above mentioned isue

On dear, glad to hear you are ok.

Marty I'm not going to be in a position to fit mine for a few months, if it helps in anyway feel free to fit it of send it back for tests.

Yup was lucky that I wasnt far down the road when it happened so was only pottering along!! If I had been on the main road could have been a serious accident

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this relatively quickly.

Hi Baz,

Unfortunately I don't have Marty's phone number but I have emailed him. I see from the site logs that he has not logged in at all in December. Maybe there's a legit and honest reason for this so lets see if my email spurs any communication.

In the meantime has anyone else had any failures?

Also Baz, just wondering, can you be sure it was a component failure of the pinion and not a fitting problem or a problem on your own steering rack? not accusing here I just wanted to understand more.

Of course Quandry I am not saying that its in any way Martins fault and just looking to see if anyone has heard anything. Hopefully there isnt anything serious after happening.

I would like to know if anyone has had any issues with their pinion also.

As for mine well the center shaft came out of the pinion which shouldn't happen and my mechanic thinks it may be a design flaw. The center shaft does not come out of the stock pinion as he tried to see if he could replicate it on the original. I can only assume then that it is either a design flaw or an issue with my pinion. But I am open to being told otherwise fro the manufacturer but would like a proper and detailed explanation as to why it differs from the original design.

I just sent him a text.

I would doubt that he is avoiding the problem.

I bet it's Xmas related.

I hate Xmas.

I was only made aware of this post this evening.

Also just read the email and text.

Sorry Baz I certainly was not trying to avoid you.

The current news is that I was last told that the CEO of the manufacturing company was away. That was almost a month ago. I should have got back to them sooner but did not, my apologies for that.

This product is something I wish I had not taken on as it has turned out to be more trouble than it is worth. I hate letting people down and it is not in my nature to do this. Please bear with me and I will try to resolve the matter.

I will phone the manufacturer tomorrow and see what they are prepared to do about the problem with Baz's pinion.

I am hoping that Baz's is a one off failure as nobody else has contacted me about this type of problem.

Thanks for getting back Marty, like I mentioned previously at no stage have you tried to avoid the problem and have been very helpful so this post was not targeted at you but more to make people aware of the issue as its been an ordeal on your part to get the manufacturer to reply on this.

Hopefully it is just my pinion and that its a one off issue.

Again I do hope everyone knows that Marty has been more than helpful and will happily continue to deal with him for this and in future. So apologies in my part if my post(s) came across in anyway negatively towards Marty!!

I fully understand your concern, I would feel the same if I was in your shoes.

Fingers crossed I will have some positive news later today.
