This is just ridiculous! i'm having bad luck with my new baby. think the head gasket is gone.. having guy look at her tomorrow to quote me.. My heart is broken. when i was changing the rad my dad noticed the coolent bubbling a bit after had finished bleeding her. then three days later the temp needle starts to rocket up and i switch off the car. when get her home i notice the coolent spraying all over the place. comes up like a geyser.. just thought i'd share my pain with ye.

Do a compression test on the cylinders then if the compression is down on a cylinder put a drop (not half a litre ) and re-do the comp test,if the compression is back up its ringland failure,otherwise it would point to HG

But your symptoms are pointing towards HG,the comp test would be the final nail in the coffin for the HG

Could be the HFH ? That would cause it to overheat - have you noticed it loosing water in driveway etc ?

But, definitely get the Comp test done.

I think my HG is blowing a little, either that or a vacuum hose or something. I dont have any overheating, bubbling of cooling or anything. Power seems ok, but I can hear blowing/chirping when I start the engine and at low revs. Getting it checked tomorrow myself.

got the best news ever. had guy come out to look at it yesterday evening. he says there is no way the headgasket is gone. he said the water coming out the filler cap would be more violent and it'd happen when engine is cold too. it only happens when engine is hot.
the coolent is just air locked.. we spent 3 hours trying to get the water moving last night and still nothing. this happened when i changed the rad. but happily he said seen as he can't get the airlocks out im not a complete tool for not being able to bleed her right.

so he's going to take her home and see if he can use a compressor he has that he uses to get ordinary cars un airlocked. he also said he'll test the thermostat make sure it opens at the right temp...

might ask him do compression test while he has her tho. the man is a legend. works as mechanic for vw and fixes my car for like 20 quid.

i have a 3s ge engine.. he claims thats a yamaha beams engine? this true?(just out of curiosity)

Thats great news, with regards to your engine if its a beams it will have either a red or black rocker cover with beams written on it

i'd say its not beams so. he said was beams making these engines not just tuning them. said i'd ask here ye are the experts! is it yameha that make the toyota engine tho?

Yamaha did do the heads of the "normal" non-Beams engines- and then they did the red and black top Beams editions.

What year is your 2 ? I think Beams was from 98ish ?? But, yeah - even if you have a pre-98, Yamaha did do the head.

Now I think of it - did they just design it and Toyota produced it or Yamaha designed and produced it.

But, yeah - you have a Yamaha head

Yahamha had a hand designing the 3S-GE engine alright, and I think it has Yamaha on the cam cover or somewhere, but it is a Toyota engine. The 3S-GE is the Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A engine.

There are a bunch of Toyota's, a limited number of each, that have full on Yamaha Beams engines, MR2's, Celicas and Altezza's for example. They are a 2 litre N/A with a red head/rocker cover, most of the block is red actually, and are sometimes known as red tops. They are a bit more powerful than a standard 3S-GE but not as powerful as the Turbo, 3S-GTE. The Beams engine will say BEAMS in raised italic letters on the top of the rocker cover. Think it has VVT-i too....

And sorry, yes, there are black versions too, but I have personally only ever seen red ones.

No black top 3SGE's in MR2's from the factory only in the Altezza etc.
