Productive modding day :) 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 165
Thanks to Quandry for coming over and giving me a hand to start my chargecooler install

Nothing so much hard but just had to put a bit of thought into where to position the pump and run the hose. I had intended to locate it somewhere near the gearbox but decided to just put it in the front bumper passenger side.

No sheared bolts while taking off the undertrays to run the hose.

So, got front rad and pump fitted and hose ran to engine bay. Will connect hose to CC core next weekend and remove IC and piping

Swagger - that Twosrus gas engine strut rocks - I've a workaround for the mo

Also, look at how the hose goes around the intake and aids cooling

Good work, ya got a good bit done.

Delighted to see that you sorted the engine lid prop too, looks well, kinda rustic! You should maybe manufacturer a few and do a group buy scheme!

Cheers Rob, was a good session. That hose wrap on the intake is pretty cutting edge stuff. Should be good for a 5 degree drop to my mind...

Will pull my photos off the camera tomorrow... got distracted playing Starcraft II.

here's a KC for the coke

Yeah, I was thinking it was a good "green" alternative

Remember when I said I was having hassle with my LEDs dying ? Well, when taking bumper off Quandry found a hanging wire. Turns out it was my wheel had worn the arch lining away and cut into the wire. So, this may have shorted and had an adverse affect on the LED's ? Who knows - but why did it kill just 3 and not the whole LED strip ?

I love the LEDs but if I put another in, this will be my third !!

Do you have a link to where you got yours from ?

Ah jeez that sucks! Just bad luck I suppose. Keep the wiring tight Rob. Don' wire them into the car.

Do what I did, remove the lenses completely from the car, disconnecting the power block but leaving the bulbs in the back of the lenses (this is assuming that the strips are fitted and just for the purpose of wiring)
Connect the LED strip, wired into the side light wiring neat and tight to the lense. Tape it up with the rest of the stock wire. That way the wiring is clear and safe with the stock wire and you can remove and refit the lights as per normal with no tools or hasstle.

Ill get a pic in a bit and stick it up for you.

As for where to get them? They are all the same really, see example here. $2.95 USD for a pair of 24 LED strips and free shipping from King Kong:

That widget is not really working properly:
LED Strips on eBay!

Seems to be an issue with ebay linking, even a URL link is coming up with errors.

Copy and paste this into ebay search:

Christmas is coming up. You could wrap them around the steering wheel!

Speaking of which, i'm thinking about getting this for my 2:

Yeah, I done it the same way and took off the whole unit. The wire which wore was for the side repeaters but I think all the lights are on the same loom. Anyway, that wire is tucked safely away now. So, I might order one more and try it out.

@DShamrock - you hang onto them. I think last set I got was from an Irish guy and arrived next day.

What about this for a colour scheme on your chargecooler Rob??

Tallaght powdercoating do a few pieces at once for 80Eur.. then you could do a stencil job on it, but that just looks like a quality sticker?

Yeah I am actually, sorry. I am very irritable waiting on my delivery for my RC truck....was expecting it today. Hope it arrives tomorrow.

Besides, you are more than capable of dishing it out, didn't see any harm in giving you a little stick for a change Anyway, i'm done now, best behaviour, honest. In your defence, you hardly responded to it. Cool as a Spanky.

Think ill even give you a KC for being such a good sport.

Yeah, I might go for the badge, as stencilling would be nice but more hassle to get right.

@Quandry - how long to Tallaght Powder coating take ?

Picking up my injectors today, so if I wait to powdercoat it, then I have to wait more to fit my CC

I want to have my CC fitted before Athlone

You normally have to leave it with him for 3 days or so. Probably better not to rush it. Get it all working first, then do a big run and get a few things powdercoated at once, works out cheaper that way.

Re: Productive modding day :) 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 165
Nearly 8 months later !!!

So, My Chargecooler has been fitted but not circulating. Over the Winter, its not such an issue for normal driving as the water in the CC stays relatively cool.

With Spring upon us, I got out to have a go to figure out why the water wasn't circulating. First off - the good thing was that the system was watertight - I dipped my finger in the chargecooler core and still plenty of water - filled 6 months previously

Next I started to troubleshoot - So, pump came on for a sec and then went off. I checked the relay, wiring etc and it all looked okay but pump not running. Replaced with new relay from Maplin and still no joy. Was getting frustrated at this stage and then said while I had the front bumper off, I may as well look at fitting two 12v air horns I had. Just as I was looking at the existing horn, it knocked off the aircon rad and the cc pump started up !

So, it looks like the aircon system wasn't grounded right. And I think that was the ground that I took for my cc pump. So, I grounded this and the pump was up and running again.

At this stage, I had been at it for hours (had tested just running water through the system with a hose and there were no blockages).

So, with the pump working properly now, I tested a bit more with the hose and the pump and then I reconnected all the hosing - but, the pump wasn't circulating any water. I was so p1ssed off. So, I ordered a Bosch Cobra pump online.

Then, I realised that I had done so much testing with the pump etc, that the battery had gone down.

So, maybe the pump was okay after all and was not ever going to run properly on just 8 or 9v ! The existing pump should work, as it is sold from www.chargecooler.co.uk - they specialise in chargecooling applications !

Anywhoooooo, The battery is recharging now and I will probably test the current pump again, tomorrow sometime.
