Spotted a beautiful white 96 MR2 today in front of the Heineken factory. Had small mods, like exhaust and wheels I believe. Looked very clean! Damn I go nuts when I see MR2s driving by and think of the beginning of the year when I had a Turbo

Ah Raf, you need to find someone old with good insurance history and swing a deal with them

My niece was saying that she knows some guys who buy and insure a Micra and then buy performance cars and drive them on their 'open insurance'. Basically when they are getting the insurance for the Micra they pay a slight bit extra for the ability to drive any car and be insured. This would seem to be a good option, however if the MR2 was stolen there would be no payout as the insurance would be on the Micra, plus I'm not sure how you tax a car that has no insurance? i thought it had to be insured to get taxed but maybe there is some workaround.

Just insure the car and pick the monthly payment option, when you get your insurance cert ring them back up and insure yourself back on the micra or whatever car you have aswell, which means your only after paying a few quid if even for the cert because your insurance will go straight back down to the rate of the lower car and you'll have a cert to bring to the tax office etc, at the moment i have a 1.4 almera, and when I want to drive my 2 I just ring up and say im trying to sell it or someones coming to look at it, they dont charge me any extra at all, wearing a bit thin though and you get a cert for the weekend etc if youve been stopped, happy days

it's known as "drive other cars" on most policys. Open drive is where anyone with a license can drive the car that you are insuring. if you have drive other cars on your policy then you can only drive cars that are insured on another policy, so you can't buy 2 cars then insure one and drive the other
