Sad or glad? What are your opinions?
Doesnt effect me either way,the only honda type R they produced since the EK9 and DC2 that weren't bulldog ugly was the DC5.
As for the CRX,looks like a megane at the back and just plain ugly at the front,so just plain ugly all over then
Unfortunate side effect is now the genre of people who ruin the honda owner's(all honda owners, all ages) name are going to start trying to sell it as a modern day classic and hold in in such esteem that'd rival the worshipping of some religous Gods...and add €2,000 to the market value.

Agree with Dan, personally could not care less, but a cousin of mine had an old CRX, the 1990 model when I was about 16. I just thought it was the bees knees. We had a lot of fun cruising around in that car for a couple years. So always had a soft spot for that. They ruined it with the CRX Del Sol, was such a hairdressers car, totally feminine. Now they finally re-launch it and as dan says, its a Megane on steroids.
All cars nowadays are so samey and cloned looking. It's such a shame. Long gone are the days when cars where totally unique. Now Jags are Aston replicas, Skoda are copying BMW, Audi are copying Mercedes, all the family saloons are hard to tell apart, same with the 1 liter brigade. Manufacturers are even going in together on joint projects, even since the mid 90s actually......The Mazda 121 and the Ford Fiest are THE SAME car with different badges and price tags. The Seat Inca Van and the VW Caddy are.....yes, THE SAME VAN! im sure there are more examples too.
That's what I love about the MR2, its completely different and a timeless shape too. Some say its a baby Ferrari, (which is a compliment BTW) but only in its sweeping lines and layout, ie, RWD, 2 seater mid engine, but it has all of the character and individuality it needs to be picked out in a crowd.

Shame on Honda to drop the Civic Type R but i suppose after the last Model which never really sold that many compared to the EP3 & the older 1.6 EK9 they probably didnt have much choice. Even Top Gear reviewed the last model and said the older EP3 was a better car. That new CRX does look very like the new Megane alright. Your right Swagger, the amount of manufacturers that are copying each other and sharing parts nowadays is crazy. I called to a garage today in Allenwood & the owner was working on a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara. He was servicing it and said he had to go to Renault to get the parts as it has a Renault diesel engine. So not only are Ford, peugoet & Citroen using Renault diesel engines, now Suzuki are using them too. The way things are going, in another 10 years every car on the road will look identical apart from the badge, they will all even share the same engine

Yep, dead right Steelheart. That's a very common thing now. Whatever about the body, chassis, suspensiona and brakes etc, the engine is frequently borrowed now. Land rover the last good few years where using Ford Transit engines, now they are BMW engines.
Im sure if you looked into it properly, you would be shocked by much cross pollenation there is amongst manufactures these days. It's lazy, but I think mostly to cut costs in terms of design and manufacture etc. Sure if you think about it, most manufactures are owned by another manufacture and sometimes several brands are all the one house so...what can ya expect? In that sense, it makes sense!

The worst thing about new cars is that if they give any trouble at all they have to be plugged in to a diagnotic computer to tell you what the problem is. Even when you service them you have to get the service light knocked off. You cant beat the older cars for their simplicity to work on. I replaced my drivers seatbelt this evening as the old one was frayed looking. I picked one up in Kilcock Car Dismantlers for €20. It was in a black 90/91 MR2 thats over there being broke for parts. €20 wasnt bad value at all, I can imagine how much you would pay for a new one from Toyota

Fuck...I have two seatbelts I am throwing out. Never thought anyone would want them. €20 euro is better than the 4.76million Toyota would charge you but free is even better value.
Ya know you cant even change the battery on the new 7 series Beemer? The battery has to be programmed into the computer, so you HAVE to bring it in and pay a fortune. Got ya by the short and curleys on everything now.
EDIT:
PS: I have a few bits and pieces knockin about, most people do. Before going looking for anything, pop a post up here. Chances are, someone might have what you need and price should be could and save you trawling breakers yards etc. Let us know if you need anything else.

Cheers Steve, I want to get the side rub strips that blank off the side indicators so i can put clear ones on the wing. Thats why i went into scrapyard to see if i could get them but no luck. Im also going to get the clear lenses for the front bumper. I was looking at them on ebay from a seller called MR2-Ben. The rub strips & the clear indicators are £98/€120 including delivery to Ireland.

Those front trims without the toberlerones are from the Rev4 up. What you could do if you want, is what I did. See my How Two:
www.mr2.ie/index.php/mr2-forum/28-how-tw...lear-toblerones#9915
If you choose to do this, I'll be happy to help out.
BTW: MR2-Ben is cool. Most of us bought our crystal lenses from him.

Had a look at your link steve, turned out really well for you. Its another option for me to consider alright. Im definitely getting the clear lenses anyway. The Rev4 rub strips are the expensive part €60 + delivery then have to get them painted but i think it would be worth it. I will then put small clear led side repeaters in the wing

Just about the death of the CTR, I couldnt disagree with Swagger and Dan more. Sorry, but the Type R has a cult following too for a reason. The Si-R I owned had was great fun to drive, had faultless reliability and was pretty quick too. Type-R's are just an extension of these models. I drove a few EK9's and a DC2 and loved em. They were about what pushing N/A power to the limits straight from the factory floor is all about and stupid Emissions Regulations are killing off this trend. The 90's Nissan VZR lump and the Toyota 20valve are also victims. Thats also the reason why so many manufacturers are sharing engine technologies. Whoever develops the least polluting version gets mass produced regardless of power output or economy. With no NSX, Type R, S2000 or F1 team Honda is quickly in danger of becoming boring. Can the CRZ help?!? I know its sold out in Japan and the interior looks good but I agree about the views on the exterior . Its no MR2

Its a shame Honda have decided not to do them anymore. They will regret it, thats for sure.

I take your points lads, but sadly, Honda is already there. In the US its already considered a Florida, OAP car. Sorry, thats not my opinion but I have heard that on a few car shows. They have walked away from performance and are concentrating on efficiency and hugging trees etc. As you said, all of their great machines, and they were great, I was just never a big fan personally, I was a Toyota and BMW fan, are gone now.

Why would you do that Swagger? The Element is gross.
As for the NSX....Yes please.
I had the pleasure of driving one. The NSX Owners club stayed in my hotel and I was parking their cars. However, I couldn't give it full beans. The VTEC sounded pretty sweet in the underground car park though. (Not as nice as the TWO though )

Ah I meant no harm, just having a giggle. I actually disagree strongly with James May. He is way off in fairness. He says that the Element is the first exciting car that Honda ever made. Come on! We all know that this is complete and utter rubbish. But it is James May afterall, captain slow, captain of all idiots.
I actually do think quite highly of Honda despite the joking and like quite a few of their cars, i'm just not a Honda NUT, that's all. One car I would love to own however, or even get to play with for a bit, is deffo an NSX. Absolutely!
That sounds like a nice day you had when the NSX OC showed up. Cool.

Should be good Ozzy, good few names down and booked in. Would still really like to see some more new people and people from the south and west sign up.
Still, there are four weeks to go, so still a good bit of time. Has the potential to be a pretty big and interesting meet and a good night out and this time Ozzy, you will be part of the meet and not working!

I know two or three lads with two's but they don't seem to keen on talking to me about their cars never mind coming to Athlone. Plus by looking at their cars they don't seem to look after them too well. Think they prefer Tescos carpark on a fri/sat night.
Sorry if i'm talking about this on the wrong thread. Don't want to be clogging.
