I am going to do a turbo conversion on my car hopefully next year, however to do this I will need to buy either a conversion kit or all the parts to create one complete package.
Conversion kits are expensive, I am thinking of buying stuff on the drip i.e. each month. Looking to have Rev 3 levels of power output from whatever mish mash of parts I come buy.
So what have people got to offer, I need everything, if I missed anything critical to the build please tell me so I can add to the list.
I will be using the list to monitor my purchasing progress.
Might be an option to look out for a cheaper rev2 engine (Quandry - know anyone with one for sale ? .... ) and then get the rev2 to rev3 conversion pieces.
Just to give an idea of price, Shahid on TBDev breaks fairly regularly and had a rev2 turbo to rev3 turbo package for £200 a while back. So, would prob still work out cheaper.
Maybe PM him and reference his old thread and see if he can get the package for same price
If it were me I would buy a clip or cheap UK car as you need so much stuff it would cost a huge amount more just buying bits and bobs here and there.
If you don't want to do that and want to build ground up then yes I have a Rev2 engine for sale (block is supposedly stronger than Rev3) and you can put on a Rev3 head/manifolds/turbo etc.
Do you need to change any of the drop links or struts? Think the brakes are the same, ie, discs, lines and pads anyway, not sure about the calipers or master cylinder though.
You might need to get a "TURBO" sticker and some "Twin Entry" side trims...LOL!!
Id go with an EBC, so you can see what you are at and change there and then without having to stop / start and see.
What about the engine lid? Will you bother? I prefer the raised tubby lid, also lets a bit more air around.
Spanky wrote: Revolutionary idea I know but ..... have you thought about buying a tubby and selling your 10th anni ???
Yep.......nope that ain't happening.
SWAGGER wrote: And list keeps growing....
Poxy charity case!
Its worse than charity this build is cheap as chips.
Indeed the list could keep growing, however this will be a basic install and run jobbie. The list at the bottom will be for later on, or if they come along at the right price.
Stealth is the way to go, may look at putting extra fans in to get more cooling air around the engine to keep the lid and a standard tubby exhaust.
This all comes from the highland run, when one of the lads had a converted N/A but it still maintained its proper N/A decorum. When I came upon him on my travels, normally during the twisty bits, all it took was one straight and I had to brake a bit later to catch up at the next corner.
So none of that "twin entry" "turbo" raised engine lids etc, lark for me, just lots of go.
If you buy it I'll give you 50Eur for the bootlid and spoiler. Probably sell a lot of other parts off it too.
You would need a tow from the UK and also a bit of space to strip the bits, then send the shell off for scrap (In the USA they are mad over hardtop mr2's, maybe you could ship them the roof).
But when all is done, you would have your whole engine conversion for FREE.

Not a bad plan. I would think you could get it delivered for not too much via a car transporter. Cheaper than towing it over but not as much fun.
You could tow it with your NA .... kind of poetic that your car tows its donor
Cheers for the info guys, but I have no interest in buying a car and breaking it down, I have the room, but time is none existent.
This will be a slow burner of a build up of parts.
Quandry, what work is involved in getting the Rev 3 head on a rev 2 block, if you know. Will research this myself later, just looking to see if there is a quick answer out there.
So Mr OEM stock factory Toyota man, do you want the boost gauge or is that too flash for ya? Its your if you want it, but if not, no worries. Actually, id say you might change the clocks and go with the factory boost gauge. Im right arnt I? KC for me..

KC for you, purely for the hazing
And thanks for the offer, but "I'am out" on the boost gauge.
I think the volt gauge is perfectly fine. If the boost ain't right I will know, but I can't tell if the alternator is working properly with my right boot
Sleeper / sleeper, is what I am after, thanks again man

Howdy Ray, Scott at ATS gave me this info (KC for him )
Gen3 head on a Gen2 bottom end is pretty simple. Run Gen2 oil cooler, water pump, hard pipes, gen3 head gasket, and gen2 timing covers. Make sure he gets the gen3 water neck, exhaust and intake manifolds, and valve cover.

Guess who's a PS3 junkie? Any takers? No?
Good idea though, if the mods think so too, to rate the KC's according to contribution / meets etc. It may be overcomplicating a simple thing that already works well, but I do like the idea myself. Good thinking batman
AND @ Ray....you are more than welcome mate, ill get the gauge down from the attic and ready for next meet (oh and cig lighter assembly) Hope you can make Thursday, if not, next time. Oh and I appreciate the KC and the comments on the car but more appreciate the "may you never be stock," had a good laugh at that.
