I have a ridiculously old radio in my car
It's a genuine Toyota analogue (push/pull buttons) set with no tape or cd. I'd say it was made in the VERY early 80's ! I can post pics if someone wants. Do ya think its worth anything?!?
Qusetion is I want a newer one which can play CD's
preferably with a green display to match the dash. Anyone got one ? Cash waiting!
You probably want something fairly straight forward and I know you want green illimination but check this out.
Erising single DIN radio, CD, DVD, Digital TV with bluetooth and SD, remote and more.
It has a flip up TFT touchscreen and optional reverse cam (they offer an option, but you can get much smaller and neater ones)
I bought a double DIN model with GPS and everything. Works a treat, looks great and cant be beaten for toys V price.
It works out at approx 180euro with FREE shipping!
Should do. The screen is at the top of the stereo, but you may have to figure that one out yourself. Without sitting in a MK1, I couldn't really say for sure. But the 7inch screen is measured diagnally from corner to corner. The screen would actually come about approx 5 inches before tilting up.
I can't picture the MK1 dash right now, but im guessing the DIN slot is quite low down yeah?
someone was looking rid of a Toyota CD changer on here recently. It may be compatible with your head unit. Worth considering if you would like to keep the interior original.
Have a look through recent posts (it was in the last week or so)

not 100% sure TBH but it was mid to late 80's. Its fairly unlikely but not impossible.
Car CD changers were def about from late 80s early 90s as I had one in 92 when I passed my test and by that stage they were becoming fairly common. All Jap (and possibly UK MK2s) have a changer option I think, so offered by MrT since 1990 at least.
Even if it is an option its probably best to buy a new head unit as the quality difference would be huge. Sony or Kenwood is best for quality in my experience, I wouldn't use anything else.
I used to be like that, ie, would only buy or Sony or Pioneer etc, but that is a little blinkered really. I have since broke out of that mindset and tried other things. Electronics have come a long way over the years and are much more reliable and cheaper.
You can get SO much more for your money now if you wish to brave non known brands. The system I got has TWICE the features of ANY 1000 euro system I have seen and looks way better. Sound is nothing short of awesome. I put new Alpine speakers in the back and a nice Vibe crossover set in the front. They were all pricey and the sounds was crap. SO ran all new, fresh speaker wire throughout the car. Sound was still shit. Bought this head unit, banged it in. Animal sound yo! Well happy and all for 250 euro. I have digital freeview TV, my iPod, DVD, GPS, bluetooth, everything I could ever need. The screen has iphone style app icons for everything and you can "slide" the 3D screen to the next screen. It is truly amazing stuff for the money. Even inlcuded the GPS antenna and an SD card with full europe maps and free delivery in 3 days. Beat that.
Next add on is a neat little infra red camera. I want to mount it front facing so I can have night vision forward view on screen like the new S-Class.
Who says I cant have every toy that any brand new top of the range car has?
Thanks a mill Ozzy ! That would be SOUND out of you. I'll PM you and we sort out the details. I'll take a pic of the unit tomorrow so ye can have a laugh !
Its definitely true that more money doesn't necessarily mean better or louder sound.
A Kenwood or similar unit with the same functionality of yours would be their top end unit costing quite a bit, generally only bought for bragging rights by people with more money than sense.
Any stereo system is only as good as its weakest link so that also must be borne in mind when buying any component of the system including cabling.
I must have a listen to and play with yours (ooo er!!!) next time I see you ... you might convince me away from my brands as I would like the double din touch screen bad boy but don't fancy paying £500+ for a second hand one or more for new
No bother buddy, next time I see you, remind me to give you a go.
Now bare in mind, I am not running any amps or subs, just the head unit, direct to the speakers and for that setup, it's pretty convincing. It has all the pre-amp and sub outs you could ever need. I would love to rig up an amp and sub at some point, but im happy enough for now.

Cool
If you have set of long enough RCA lead(s) and a bit of spare speaker cable we could quickly rig up my subs, in your car, linked to your head unit and the amp still in my frunk (if you follow my garbles).
SWAGGER wrote: Not a bad idea, might actually have long RCA leads in the attic and I have lots of speaker cable, so that may be possible. Cool!
I have some as well plus male to male connectors so we could join 2x5m cables together. If I make it to Athlone we can do it then. You will be online buying the amp and speaker the next day .... 100%
