I'm not sure if the engine is running a bit rich. I've checked engine fault codes but that came back all clear. Got no reading when checking o2 sensor but that could just be my meter. I'm getting about 28 mpg at best but have to drive really easy to get that. What would the avg. mpg be?

What colour are your spark plugs, have you checked them.
Black = Rich / white = lean / light brown = good.
Any holes in your exhaust.

dont think there's any holes in the exhaust. Plugs are a bit of both, tips of electrodes are white but sooty black aound bottom of threads

28mpg for a tubby wouldn't be unreasonable ... slightly more (around 32mpg) for an NA would be typical.
As Ray said, have a look at your sparkies and compare to the pics below:

She's N/A and its mostly long runs keeping around 60mph and rarely going above 4500rpm going up through the gears, real sunday driving style. Push it along and have some fun and you can see the needle fall. Sorry about the huge blurry photo, cant seem to keep it small, just white tips and very sooty base

Okay, still getting no reading from my o2 sensor and my meter checks out on other things so it could be the o2 sensor. Will have to check some more. While I was digging about back there, checking throttle sensor and that, I came across these. Anyone know what these connections belong to or what should be plugged in to them? First one is on the same loom as another socket connected to green denso sensor under throttle sensor. Second is on loom connected to fuse box in engine bay _KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG _KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG _KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Sorry, didnt proof read what i wrote in last post. The plug marked 1 is on a loom with 4 plugs at the end of it. One is connected to the throttle sensor, 2nd one is connected beside throttle sensor next to intake manifold, 3rd is connected to green coloured plastic socket below throttle sensor and the 4th one is socket in pic not connected to anything. I checked the lambda sensor as per your "how to" which was very helpful, (KC+1) but I am getting no reading at all on the meter

I will have a look later today and see. Will take a photo of my connectors for you and we will see if yours is set up correctly. Can you get a bigger photo up.
Getting nothing at all from the lambda doesn't sound right, you should be getting some indication of voltage.
