Can the original ECU be remapped? 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 19
Hi all, just wondering can the factory ECU be remapped? I was looking on one website and it listed the Dastek Unichip that plugs into factory ECU and optimises the settings. Anyone have heard of this before or may have tried it?

Hey Steelheart, not sure. To the best of my knowledge, you are not tuning the factory ECU itself, but a piggy back unit, like a superchip or something. You can change a few things, but obviously nowhere near as much as a full standalone aftermarket ECU, like the Apexi PFC or Blitz and so on.

What you can do with a piggy back "chip" is fine tune the power band through the gears, wipe out dead spots and increase the fuel efficiency whilst also getting a minor power improvement both in terms of torque and BHP. Good, of course, no doubt, but nowhere near what could do with the likes of the PFC. Hope that helps some!

Cheers Swagger, might look into the Apexi PFC. First i want to change the intercooler & get a Elec Boost Controller.

No worries. The Apex'i Power FC is the most tunable and most popular. Most of the tuning houses openly welcome them. The only problem is they stopped making them some time ago so they can be hard to come by and therefore can cost a few quid.

Keep an eye out on mr2oc.co.uk, tbdev and the others (links in the header above). Maybe watch ebay, look for cars being broken and stick up the odd wanted add. Sometimes they can fetch up to 400-500euro or more with the hand commander but you could get lucky.

There is a guy in this forum called db8, based somewhere in Japan who is a specialist trader in top class, genuine JDM goodies. When the time comes, pop him a PM.

Was just thinking after I posted that. I only thought the PFC for the SW20 was no longer made as I had heard that said before. I just checked the Apex'i website and they have them listed though:

Part number: 404-BT001, last on the list.
www.apexi-usa.com/products/?id=5354
1150USD though, so maybe second hand is a good idea.

Lots of other extras and accessories available too, like this:

Apex'i EBC, works with the Power FC. See link below, available new for 199USD.
Part number: 415-A002
www.apexi-usa.com/products/?id=6174

User Doc84 on here got a 'chip' installed locally. If you search his username or even search the forum for chip you might find the thread he put up about it.

You can buy SW20 PowerFC's from ATS Racing, GTS Chris, or Berk Technology. I heard that Apexi only make them in batches now so they are sometimes hard to come by for 6 months or so until a new batch is released.

I think I saw a second hand PFC on IMOC for sale for £600 - said it was perfect condition. I assume that price was negotiable.

Aha, that's what it was. Thanks for clarifying that Quandry.
