Impromptu PFC install ! 2 Years, 2 Months ago

After receiving my PFC yesterday morning, I had to mind the kids all day, so I didn't even get to take it out of its padded bag (which came in useful after!!).
I dropped over to Quadry and we went down to the car park outside the Centra. We needed light and part of the startup procedure is to let it run for 30 mins - so, even with my quietish Mongoose, it might be a bit much for neighbours.
So, there we were installing a PFC in the freezng cold outside the local shop

I had nothing to secure the PFC on with so, we just used some bubble wrap to keepit from getting "knock"ed around. Then we used the padded mail bag as exrta protection. We then secured it down with yellow insultation tape
No fancy brackets here !!!

As you can see, we made a nice hole in the bag and bubbe wrap so the Hand Commander could plug in.
Turned the ignition on and nothing on hand commander :( :( After a few mins thinking did I get stiffed with a dodgy PFC, or did one of the mailmen trow the bag around a bit too much, Quandry asked if my alarm was doing something - and so, I embarrassingly deactivated it
So, all seemed to be running well with the PFC not giving any warnings. This PFC had run on a gen1 with gen3 conversion - so, we thought it best to reset to the base map.
We went in to the menu, selected re-initialise data but it didn't work. The japanese symbols on the PFC didn't help either !
Luckily Quandry had his laptop with him but the battery was nearly gone. He found a Hand Commander manual and we found out that after the reset via the commander, you needed to trn the ignition off and back on. So, that eventually worked.
Without data-logging, I can't give specifics but I know the car feels totally different. The power seems to come on better and felt much smoother (last dyno I had the graph was far from smooth).
So, very successful start to my PFC ownership.
P.S. Don't worry - I am not going to leave the PFC in the boot like that

The funniest was the two guys who came out of the Centra and thought your car was a 'Spicler' might have to fix up those badges
I think the car felt great and was impressed that it all installed so easily, no issue with sensors, idle etc etc. Very good option for the GenIII motor obviously.
You need to get yourself one of these sometime in the future:

A 12 volt lead light would make it easier the next time , Did you put the street light back up when you finished the job
Good to see the works proceeding in the face of adversity, well done on the improved drive as well. Must get me a rear clip at some stage and a street light, are you both up for the conversion work

Ah mate thats just to kind of you but I will keep the V6.
But really I don't think I have the budget to buy the engine off you. Which is a pity, as I will do a tubby conversion to mine but its a least two years down the line.

I'll stick with turbo power for now!

a standard mac solenoid that can be had for about £20 will suit as a boost control solenoid.
It works at the exact same frequency, and will be more reliable.

Cool - would you have a link to where I might find one ?
I was actually nearly going to bid on a screen-damaged AVC-R and just use that solenoid.

I'll get the part code off mine. I got mine from a US ebay seller. It's over 60 days since I bought it so I can't remember which seller it was!

Hey Mark
Would you be able to confirm if 35A-AAA-DDBA-1BA is the right part number ?
Or if you dig up the eBay seller, even better

Not sure what you mean by the broken record - I'm looking for a solution to get a boost control solenoid for 20 quid instead of 200 quid
Have I been repeating myself in my posts ? If so, let me know where and I'll delete the offending posts and get this record fixed

Getting an extra 100hp for 20 quid would be like breaking a record!
I'll try and dig out a torch tonight and see if I can read the part number on mine.... Dam you winter nights!

Sorry for going on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on about this like a broken record, like a broken record, like a broken record....
But here is the part number for the MAC unit that can be used as a
Boost control solenoid for an MR2 Turbo (sw20), running a standalone Apexi Power FC ECU
35A-AAA-DDBA-1BA
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Which can be had from websites like this http://www.frightprops.com/FrightProps/Props/CategoryW.asp?ID=A-0013-0082 for about 20eur or so, how cheap!...

Make sure you get a wideband so your engine doesn't do this

Sorry just seen this now!
Also consider the techedge WBO2 system - its one of the cheapest about, one of the oldest and one of the best.
wbo2.com/
You usually get the basic kit on ebay for around £100
This is the cheapest one: wbo2.com/2j/default.htm
