TOPIC: Low profile tyres for 18's?

Low profile tyres for 18's? 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 265
I'm thinking about getting 18" rims. Anyone know any shops (physical or Internet based) that sell tyres with a 30 profile? examples would be 215/30/18 and 245/30/18.

If you're suffering from lag, you're either in the wrong gear or the wrong car!

Forgot to mention, my preference is Bridgestone, Pirelli, Kumho, Yokohama and Dunlop. I've also had Falken in the past and they seemed ok. I'm guessing that these would have to be ZR rated and must have the 'e' mark.

Suggestions welcome

have a look on www.blackcircles.com

I dont think they work in southern ireland but it is a easy way to search for what tyres are available in what size.

they dont bring any options up for 30mm profile but there are a few for 35mm

hmm nice link Spanky. KC +1.

Note that the /30 means that the side wall = 30% of the tyre width as opposed to 30mm in size.

Well it's quite an expensive purchase by the look of them so could possibly pick them up in my people mover if the saving is substantial.

Ouch...... a 30 profile will be ultra harsh with loads of slow speed tramlining, not to mention the fact that handling on the limit of grip will be severe. I've had 35 all round and that was pretty bad.

True, and the prices for 35 series are horrendous also...

It seems very hard to get MR2 compatible rim widths. Maybe I'll have to go back to the old faithful Rota Torque's in 17..

Correct, side wall is a percentage of width.

30's though? Its hard enough to get a decent choice of rims with correct MR2 fitment and offset, but to get 30 profiles? You're asking for an epic journey IMHO.

That will be a very hard ride too Quandry. The difference between 17's and 18's is huge from a comfort point of view. Id think about it first, specially the 30 bit. Go for a spin with Dave at the next meet. The 18's look magic, I LOVE them, but it is a harder ride than 17's for sure.

Try calling roundabout tyres in Walkinstown, D12. If they can be gotten, they will get them. Tell them the exact measurements you want, the brand preference and price range. They will come back with a list for you, if any. Brilliant service.

Good luck!

OH, I recommend Khumo's, see the other thread from mnixon yesterday re tyres

18s do look good - but I'd be with Swagger on this - tink it might be a bit harsh. Then 18s are expensive to buy/maintain.

Maybe get 17s and lowering springs - or Tein suspension with EDFC

... and for all these years I though it was mm

Cheers for the KC btw, sending one back at ya for educating me

Thinking about it, 30mm of rubber would be pretty thin ... you could probably do a better job with a load of rubber bands

no worries, and yes 30mm tyres wouldn't be the most comfortable..

I'm actually thinking now that I might try and get two Enkei RP01's in 17x9 and that would fix my tuck problem on the back. Found some at Upgarage...
