Polishing up a stock exhaust system 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 8
Hows everybody, havn't been on here in a while with my life being taken over with college...

Any tips in cleaning up a stock exhaust e.g the twin pipes and the back box on a Rev3.

Looking at Mongoose and Blueflame pictures is tempting me to buy a new system.

But would like to see if a shine can be got from the original setup first!

Any tips on cleaning it up would be appreciated.....

You can do the end pipe and tips with Autosol and Scothbrite pads.

Apply the autosol paste to the pad and polish to your hearts content. Just make sure the scothbrite pad is not to rough of a grade. after working that in for a while get a clean cloth and polish of the excess paste with a dry cloth. Just like polishing a car except more abrasive.

You can get specific metal polish for car exhausts (well all car metal work really). Autoglym, Meguirs etc all do some but I dont know which is best.

If your exhaust isn't in too bad condition then any metal polish (even household stuff) will reap a reward

I just use regular tinfoil and warm soapy water, crumple it into a ball and just use elbow greese, replace the tinfoil as it gets too smooth etc, no need for any abrasives that cost money

Coke. If the US traffic cops use it to clean gore off the roads after accidents, no reason why we cant use it to clean our exhausts. The Coke company themselves have used it to clean their truck engines for decades.

The raw acid ingredient of Coke, is so corrosive that in its raw form, it has to be transported in container trucks with HAZARDOUS MATERIALS warnings on it.

So...yeah, give it a go, even try the old dirty penny in a glass of coke trick. Overnight.

I hear Cheery coke is the best ... cleans the metal and you get a nice cherry (ish) smell when it heats up

You missed the joke, Cheery Cola does not exist, except maybe in Willie Wonka.

Cherry Cola on the other hand, is quite nice IMO, particurly Dr Pepper.
