As some of ye might know I have recently got an MR2 mark 1. Stupid phone is acting up an cant upload pics. This little one from donedeal will have to do awhile
Anyway after gettin it checked the mechanical stuff is 110%
Thing is the body needs a lot of cosmetic work and so a re-spray is on the cards
Does anyone know a nice colour that suits?!? I'm open to suggestions but I'd like a colour not standard on the MR2

How about a colour close to what it already is, that dark blue colour is pretty nice plus it makes the respray easier (and cheaper) as you dont need to match the engine bay, frunk doors etc to a new colour.

However, if you are going to change the colour I would vote for a mid purple with extra sparkle ..... mmmmmmmm

Thanks Spanky I was thinkin the original colour too but the Spraypainter said twill be around the same price for same colour or different. Dont matter !?! If anyone got pics of mark 1's painted twud be cool too. Lookin 4 a mid purple one now...

That's pretty mental! I was reading Cushy's first post and was thinking of Cadbury's purple, love that, then went on to read Spankys reply.

So purple seems popular!

A really dark and moody gray? Think stealth bomber. I once seen a Japanese lotus done that way, looked crazy.

The Champagne is nice but I would prefer the gun metal grey.

I take it you want it to look subtle and expensive, classy like. Ie, no mad, bright, in your face colours?

On another note, if you want a classy look, but also want a brighter colour than dark, greys and purples, consider a Ferrari red. MK1's look magic in red. Check out RedMk1. His car is awesome looking, gets lots of attention!

Changed my mind - Purple out (IMO) - its between the champagne and gun metal ...

Whatever you do don't go with that fluoro green or fluoro blue that is on so many show cars...

I like the red mr2 mark 1 that redmk1 has a lot Thing is I want the colour to be unique on a mark 1. Which rules black out too, which I like. I'm with Spidey on purple I'm thinkin a lighter blue now aswell like swaggers. Its a lovely blue and this one looks not too bad with gold wheels.

Was just talking to Swagger on Sunday about the Scooby blue/gold and I was saying to stay away as it'd be a Scooby copy. However, might be changing my mind :)

I saw a clio (200bhp sport model) today done in a nice colour. It was basically yellow but had a sort of pearlescent finish to it that changed the tone of yellow in sunlight.

Could be worth a visit to your Renault garage to see if you can sport one ... this pic should give some idea of what I mean

My blue is called Caribbean Blue (same as Spankys) just FYI. Will try did out the paint code. Would look great on a MK1, quite different without being nasty like the colours Quandry mentioned. I'm sure someone here knows a link to a site with all the paintcodes?

Toyota 8B6 known as Carribean Blue, Tropical Blue or Strong blue. Foudn this as confirmation (as if I needed it - shame )

Just having a quick scan through the posts and out of all of them I would say the gunmetal is my favourite. I like that colour on any car though I must say!

Yeah we saw Sleepmethods Mk3 for the first time last Sunday. Was gunmetal grey, looked very well. Some cars can take some colours, others cant, but seems gunmetal grey is one of the few universal colours out there that makes practically any car look great! A very strong candidate by the looks of it!

Still voting for the Caribbean Blue of course! That would look great on a MK1.

definitely the carib blue FTW ... anyone else that say different is obviously mad

(3)Nautical Blue This is a mark 3 colour

Just a quick question - I was chatting today and was told that I could I could nearly half the value of the mr2 by changing the colour of the car?!?
Any truth 2 this?

But seriously I would avoid any resprayed car for fear of its history, but I would say if you were to get the whole process photographed and time stamped its pretty damning evidence that it was a respray for the colour rather than to hide something.

I reckon black is the way to go for a Mk1, Have you looked into any dark perlescent colours, something not majororly over the top might look well,

This one has a nice subtle red flec in it that you only really notice when its wet, I'd go for black with a silver flec,
