Hi Geoff,
This is MBlands car, it was in MR2only, i have the mag if you want to have a read of the full details.
I looked into doing this on the MR2 too, as i had it door handles removed on my old car,
I only got caught out once, but it was a hatchback.
The door handles are easy to do, according to the painter the hard bit is the side strips.
I would have though it would be simple to take off the strips n fill the gap, as you have a straight edge either side. The problem arises with the door being banged close. The filler will probably loosen over time. The painter said you would really need to weld in a metal plate and smooth it before painting. In his own words, "it will be an expensive vanity project" hehe!
I still think i would like to do it, but i suppose it would make sense if you had the
car in the painters and were getting alot of work done.
I have been meaning to drop a PM to MBland to see if he went the filler or the welding route. Would be interesting to find out, if you drop him a PM let us know the answer
Personally, i would do the strips but not the door handles.
I was looking at possibly fitting rear Camry door handles, so there would be no door lock, need to verify if they fit 100% first...
Just my thoughts,
T
