Front fog light bolts 2 Years ago Karma: 111
If it was a lot less than the $37.15 to ship the bolt kit from Twos R Us I would buy a kit. So instead of buying oem to rust in years to come I want to buy aluminium or stainless steel instead. Anybody know what the thread pitch and length of the original bolts that hold in the front fog lights ?

Thanks dshamrock2000. At the moment I'm working on my engine in the garage. I have a HID kit to go into the fog lights when I get time to install it. So it would be nice to have the replacement bolts before I start working on the lights.

be careful with those.i used em for mine and one of the extractors actually snapped in one of the screws.now i cant get the screw out at all because the drill just slides off the bit of the extractor thats stuck in it.its way handier to just drill straight through the screws..

This is the kit I ordered form JML direct last week, hasnt arrived yet but my mate got one yesterday in woodies in Naas which i'm hoping to borrow tonight, i saw other ones where you drill the screw and insert a bolt that can then reverse the screw out but would rather try this one first before i get out the drill

I can't make it to the meet tomorrow, but you could take the bolts with you. Maybe someone else would be able to measure the pitch of the thread.

So, how'd you get them out in the end ? using the screw extractor set? Do you turn it with a ratchet or drill ?

Re:Front fog light bolts 2 Years ago Karma: 235
2 of them came out with the screw extractor set, one from each fog, the other two screws just wernt strong enough for it, so in the end had to drill them, drill bit broke in the 1st screw so wasnt a good start, then tried again & finally decided to pop the head off the screw, so was able to take out the fog and get the bit of screw left in the threads, last one was more difficult so in the end worked on the head & just used brute force and broke the plastic bracket to release the front fog out, then worked on the screw left in the thread, Replaced them with hex head bolts "5M 15mm" with washers so I can use a ratchet set for future bulb changes, In hindsight the quickest way to do this would be to just split or break the plastic bracket to release the fog out of the car, plastic bracket can just glue back together, this leaves you with more room to work on the screw left in the bracket

Ta for the options. I've no garage, so breaking the brackt and then taking the foglight inside into a warm house to work on it, sounds like a good option

???

$37 for a pair of bolts?

The hardware store should have bins, upon bins of bolts they'd be willing to help you match up. If one doesn't have it (damn metric.. no wait, UK uses metric don't they?), then another surely will.

I had some leftover bolts from a shelf that match up just fine. I think they're chrome, aluminum or something.

Europe and Japan and Australia use metric as far as I am aware of. UK still uses miles instead of kilometers, US is still using imperial measurements.

Got some m5 with hex heads ... one fitted fine. I am still trying to remove the old bolts from the other 3 holes. After nearly removing half a finger, I decided to put a load of wd40 on them. I shall do battle with them again tomorrow!!!

Absolute nightmare of a job!!
All the bolts rusted and the nuts that were fixed to the back of the fixing bracket came apart. Managed to tap the holes and use m8 bolts instead ... I finally have foglights
