Anyone done the quad tail light mod ? where the 4 rear lights come on for the running lights, then the centre two lights are brighter for fogs and when you brake all 4 lights run brighter.
I found this link to it but just wanted to see it in action.
Actually, I must check if my car already has it - never looked at my rear lights !

Are the bulb holders fairly standard ? Where'd you get them ?

got them off a car being broken. the 2 inside bulb holders can only take a bulb with 1 circuit, so you need to get 2 of the outside bulbholders off a broken car. I saved a write up somewhere. it'll prob be monday before I cabn dig it out though

I've done this mod to three of my four MR2s... got to be one of my favourite mods!
The UKDM cars came with an odd crescent reflector in the inner fog lights that means only part of the circle lights up, making it all look a bit odd. I dunno if the same holds true for Irish domestic market MR2s (I assume there were some), but JDM cars don't have it. Owners is the UK end up baking the lights in the oven at 100degress, carefully prising the unit apart and unscrewing the reflectors

Is it okay/safe to put heatshrink over the diodes ?

Can't see why not? Mine have some rubber covers on that I found on some molex connectors in an old computer... they just so happened to be the right size once I'd attached the diodes into an electrical connector block

I have it wired up - not sure if I'll get to take pics this evening though.
Very straight forward mod - now I need to buff my tail lights as they're a bit dull

Lol - I'm just going to go to a local motor factors and see what they recommend
Saw some thread on IMOC - and people have used Autosol, T-cut, some rubbing compound and more. And then there is the route of sanding them down and get a lacquer coat.
Might just rub it down with CIF and then polish it back up !
I just wish this baltic weather would go away, so I can get on with my to-do list

My old man used to say to the mechanics in his workshop, "There's heat in the work" Now get polishing and stop slacking.

I'll be honest, I'm not going to get much done in the next few weeks. Family time at weekends and nights are only other option
But I did just use Cif the other day on the lights and then put on baby oil. What a shine ! I know th baby oil is going to come off but it comes up great while its on.
I must dig up my dremel - they usually come with a buff and polishing attachment ?
I was actually going to do a write up for the quad tail light mod but the mr2oc.co.uk write up is perfect.
I think I might just take write-ups from various forums and give credit to the particular forum/member etc.
It would mean we would get a repository of how-to's written up fairly quickly and it would save people having to search multiple forums ??

Ta - yeah, better to have the clean quad tail-lights, than manky quad tail-lights.
I was going to give them a bugg using the dremel a few weeks back but I couldn't find my dremel !!!!!
I'd say Adam, my 15 month old, is probably using it to modify some of his toys

Did this mod this evening. Was pretty straight forward, more so than I had expected.
I did not have rear fogs at all, so now I have the quad tail light mod AND rear fogs. Just have to run a switch wire to the dash for the rear fog switch, that will need a couple of hours another day. Nice. Very happy.

This mod was already done to my car when i got it. All 4 rear lights are on as tail lights and work as brake lights. There is no Fog lights on rear of my car but i have had 2 other jap imports in the past with no rear fog lights and they passed NCT that way. Anyone know is this still the same or has anyones MR2 failed for not having a rear fog light
