New F40 style engine lid in FRP and CF

I have the engine lid with me now and will be starting moulding next week so we should have the first FRP ones available soon. We will also be changing the design of the lid slightly. I have been told that rain can get in the gaps quite easy so we will be extending these to counter act that along with making, hopefully, a make shift hinge for the top and a locking mechanism that will allow you to keep using your standard engine release catch.

Very interesting, would you have a rough idea of price?

Im hoping around £200 FRP and £400 CF but until we have made one I cant say for sure.

I had the opportunity of inspecting one of these up close and as super cool as I always thought these were and ALWAYS wanted one, I was completely put off by several things, which in fairness, you seem to be aware of already.

To use these, you must remove your existing engine lid. Fine, but these typically are screwed on to little L shaped brackets down along the sides of the rear window, over the inspection panels. Its a nightmare, just to get at the engine, you need a screw driver to remove 4 bolts and lift the whole thing off, put it on the ground, don't lose the bolts etc and then reverse the process.

Then there is the rain/water situation. Water pours straight down on to the engine.

If you can sort these two issues, you have an amazing product. I would love one of these if it could be popped open like the OEM lid and raised on a hinge and gas struts and use the existing catch. I imagine you would need to add some vanes inside the vents to direct water to run down and off the cover on to the boot lid.

Actually I spent some time looking for these before I bought my 2. I think they were originally made by MV Autosports who seem to have vanished years ago.

I'd like to see this product work out for you.

Ask Sport make them they are based in Japan but for a carbon one it used to be around £1500 to get them to the UK, im hoping ours will be slightly less

Mould is complete. We are adding an inner skin to the engine lid to solve the 'sagging' problem and will be working on a new fitting kit so the engine lid can be removed easier

Progress:

Moulded and made the first one, still needs some work on the hinge system and trimming to fit perfect but we are slowly getting there

How is it fitted? I know the original ones are a pain to get off just to look at your engine etc

I'll explain properly with photos but basically it pushes to the top of the car then clips into the OEM latch its a sort of quick release engine lid
