Anybody interested in creating a trackday MR2.
cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/carextras/1448235
I have an V6 engine and gearbox for it at home, could be an interesting project for people who want to learn about the MR2 and have some track day fun. It would take some time to complete as the engine needs to be stripped down and rebuilt have those parts as well, also the car would need to be track prepared..
The Rev 1 chassis is the best of the bunch handling wise.
I will probably do this myself anyway, just wanted to put it out there if anybody is interested. Sent them a text, waiting for a response.

Ok now that ive stopped laughing over that ad....very funny...I think its a great idea. I actually suggested this a few weeks back when that 2 was going for 250euro. I certainly would not have the space or facilities to house the car/build, but would offer time and funding to a degree to help. I think it would be cool and we could even put advertising all over it, MR2 Drivers.ie etc and lots of ads for suppliers, maybe for a price to help run the car etc.
Hope this is a runner, could be epic!

Just got a reply to my text car is only for breaking.
I am not actively looking for a car yet myself but if the right one came up with a blown engine and there was three of four people interested in buyng it then I am game.
1. Ray
2.
3.
4.
It would be a great experience for anybody thats not been on a track before. Strip the car to bare bones for weight reduction throw on a set of second hand coilovers, 15's with R888 and you would have a very cheap bag for buck.I have most everything to get a running v6 track car here. All we need is a rolling chassis and wiring loom.
Terms and conditions will apply and can be discussed/agreed on this thread if we get the three / four people interested.

I'd definitely be interested in helping fund and work on such a project, would be a great way to learn more about the mr2 and in general
1. Ray
2. mnixon
3.
4.
any reason why the car is for breaking only? was it crashed?

Im in...every now and then there is a cheap 2 going. 250-500 euro is not too much between 4 or 5 people, should be reasonably decent and not need excessive work, mostly stripping, tidying and then the engine work.
I would learn loads and thoroughly enjoy this!

I thought stevetz had gotten rid of his old car for breaking but he's still advertising it, afaik the chassis is fine, and will have already been partly stripped too Does it need to be a hard top or would that be suitable?

Steve, I had seen your post and thats what started me thinking, so we have three one more space guys who's in.
Ideally I think the following is what we need to look for to have the minimum hassle.
JDM (due to rust)
Rev 1 n/a, rolling chassis including loom and driveshafts.
Tintop, T-bar has to much glass that can shatter, big no no on the track.
15's (lightweight if possible)
Ground rules as I would see them.
A. Consider any money you invest into this as lost money, the car could be totaled on its first drive.
B. Its joint ownership, all purchases are agreed on a 3 of 4 majority, if you disagree at any time during the life of the syndicate you are free to walk, but the money and any assets with the car is lost
C. The car is to be used for trackdays only.
D. The default use is for all parties to attend trackdays (countywide) together thus minimising the cost.
E. It can be used by one or all the members of the syndicate at anytime once it doesn't clash with a previous booking.
F. Should the car be damaged / written off etc it is the joint responsibility of the syndicate to fix / replace or retire the car / syndicate, again based on a 3 of 4 majority.
G. If you are injured during a track day insohowever caused and to whatever extent, the responsibility is with you.
H. More rules to follow, please add anything you have a concern about or comment on the above.
If we keep it simple it will be easier to dissolve the whole thing should something occur that warrants it.
General details, I can keep the car here in my place.
Tools in my place can be used for the car at mine and at the tracks but only when I am around.
It would be an idea to have a small set of tools for when I am not around.
I can transport the car however I don't own a car transporter and we may need to borrow / hire one.
Other arrangements will need to be made if I am not around if transport is required.
Get your own safety gear, helmet, overalls, boots etc.

You can deffo have two drivers anyway not sure on more though, needs to be looked into.
Cheers, Eamo, thats the exact type of car we are looking for.
For the moment I want to look at the details and make sure everybody is in agreement before they part with cash and we still have room for one more on the syndicate.

I'd be very interested too but I am more trying to add up the time that will be needed, rather than the cost.
How many hours do you rekon we'd need to get it sorted ? If I was in, I don't want to just pay my euros and then expect to race on the track. I want to put in my fair share of time to get the car on the track.
Plus I want to learn
So, I want to make sure I can commit enough time every month for the intial "build" period and then monthly maintenance. I don't want to half go in on the project.
Put it this way - if I wasn't married with kids, I'd be working on it every evening

Well for me, i would be interested in all the learning that would go with the project, i have quite a bit of free time at the weekends, but the mechanical skills are very very rusty and i would need some a lot of guidance......

I can give this guy a ring and go to look at the car for you if you fancy it (assuming it isn't too far away).
Would save you guys a trip up to the north.

Ok do we now have a definitive list of who what in,
1. Ray
2. mnixon
3. SWAGGER
4. Spidey??
5. B4ss ??
Four is ideal, however five can be dealt with, it may mean less track time, I haven't looked into the multidriver aspect yet.
If anybody else is interested in this they will need to find a home for a car etc. It would be sweet to have two cars out there enblazened with MR2.ie decals etc.
Time wise it depends on how far people want to take it, I am thinking every saturday morning till the car is finished and ready to the acceptable levels for track days. Which means roadworthy basically, but without the finesse of a road car.
Cost wise, I would think 2/300euro x 5 each would have a car well on its way to track time. The engine rebuild,I would have to check on as I would get my father to do it rather than try and learn at risk of destroying it. Plus he knows his shit big time.
Then there is consumables to consider,
Tyres
Oil
Brake fluid
Brake pads (I have a set of front racing pads)
etc.

I've thought long and hard about this and I think I'll have to bow out.
I don't think I'll be able to give the time for now. And if I took a place, I think it would be unfair on someone else loosing out.
However ! I love the idea of having two MR2.ie cars. So, my plan is that when I hopefully have a bit more time early next year, I can be on the second team. And we'd have a 2L turbo

Cheers Spanky and Ricky, don't go running yet. Just need to get confirmation on who's in.
Tony am I safe to assume that your up for this.
Once we confirm who's in we can move onto step two, source the right car.

No probs Ray, just give us a shout and one or both will have a look for ya.
It sounds like an interesting project but geography doesn't really make it practical for me. I would be happy to help out if a big days work was planned ... I could make the coffee

Nice, but pricey! We need to get a non runner with either a "wanked" or no engine, with good, rust free body work and take it from there. Hopefully pick up a shell for 500euro or less with a bit of luck.

I know you already have one (Ray) but what about a MK1 V6? you could pick up a cheap MK1 much easier, the car is lighter, tighter (apparently) and something a little different to what the potential co-owners have without being too different. I am presuming the engine conversion is technically speaking the same process without bodywork mods etc
ebay possibilities

Imagine everyone surprise when you start up a 200+bhp 800kg (once lightened) V6, some would laugh as you roll it off the trailer soon to cry when you kick their ass on the tarmac. I reckon you could fairly easily get tubby bashing performance ... 0-60 in 5 secs or less perhaps with loads of torque.
What every you pick the lightening procedure is bound to be fun .... ripping stuff out
