Yes the Rotary brigade can't leave MR2's alone..

RX8 engine mounted to an e153 gearbox

I like the principle of the Rotary engine and I would like to own one, but I drove an RX8 a few months back and the powerband is nowhere near as useable as a 3sgte.

Write up and more pictures located on the Honda tech forums...

If you're suffering from lag, you're either in the wrong gear or the wrong car!

What positives over the 3SGTE does it have, from my understanding not that much.

Higher redline, same power, less torque in the bottom end, probably just less at the top. Newer design engine. On balance I would take the 3sgte I think it's more tractable for a street car.

Not sure if there are 9second RX8's going around?

i thought that rotary engines were very torque-y

didn't they have to limit the torque in the rx7 because it was too much to be road legal in Japan?

Yep very hard to get insured on a rx7, the rotary use a rediculous amount of oil too as far as i know. I'd rather the 3sgte engien but i suppose it is cool to see different engine swaps, v6, v8, rotary etc.

it was the 13mpg that put me off rotary's. V8's are getting 18mpg aroung town, which surprised me.and 350bhp as standard.did you se the mx5 posted on tb with the engine swap?

This is the one.Wonder if the extra weight makes it handle like a pig. Would be a fun drive.

I have some CNC skills actually. As part of my degree I was trained in CNC turning, milling, etc. Have never used it since unfortunately but it would be great to have the chance some day. Its actually not that hard if you have a few weeks to learn the code.
