TOPIC: Remote start alarms

I just got a remote start alarm supplied and fitted. It is abviously an alarm, and you can remote start the car and it also acts as a turbo timer.

The guy who fitted it is based in Kildare and is an auto-electrician and previously an MR2 owner. So, he knows his stuff and also knows MR2s.

Supply and fit was 400 euros - although, he also fixed my amp whine issue and also tidied up some wiring. Plus he had to take out the existing Clifford alarm - and believe me, there was a lot of wires and weight in it !

If anyone is interested in getting one, let me know and I can pm you his details. No harm in asking for a discount and remember to say I (he knows me as Rob, not Spidey!!) referred you and you are from MR2.ie.

P.S. I took out the Clifford because the remote start unit on it wasn't working and the remote central locking wasn't working either. Persoanlly, I think Clifford are overpriced electronics. They had their day years ago but modern electronics have come a long way since then and all the other companies have caught up and surpassed them.

I had a remote start in my last 2. Also had pager and anti-hijack. I thought it was the bees. Was thinking of getting one again as they are so cheap now and more people can install them then when I got mine about 4 years ago.

That was a great price you got for all of that work. Keep his details handy, he will be a useful guy. The remote start is great craic, loved freaking people out from a distance. You can start the engine and it will disable the alarm in the same action, but leaves the doors locked for security. Enjoy!

Great for the cold months, have your brekkie while your interior and engine warm up and the windows clear. Sweet!

My turbo timer (Starbo) can start my MR2 at any time I want. It was great finshing the night shift and watching everybody go out and start scraping the ice off their windscreens. I just jumped in my nice warm MR2 and was away

Thats cool Marty, was that by remote or could you actually set the timer to come on at a predefined time?

It has a timer, days, hours and minutes. It was already in the car when I bought it. No need to worry about the car being stolen, with steering lock on and removable steering wheel

Smart set up Marty, like it. My last 2 had the remote start as I said, no timer, never saw that before (well cool) and quick release boss kit. Miss those mods, must at least get the q/r boss again.

A small word of caution for anyone buying a remote start system, it ius an offense (in uk, not sure about s.ire) to have an unattended car running either on remote start, turbo timer or by simply turning the key and walking away, in all places.
