back box, brake discs and pads 12 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 33
Just got a quote from main dealers for parts:
Front pads €94.32 per pad
Rear pads €61.61 per pad
Front discs €143.87 per disc
Rear discs €105.65 per disc

Back box €393.87
Cat €955.29
Down pipe €196.20

Mad!
I dont think I need the down pipe and I was hoping to find out if anyone has had better prices on the rest?
Thanks for all the help and support.

I'm interested in getting discs that are slotted but not drilled. They don't seem to be an option though?

Thanks guys. Those Black Diamonds look great but wow they are pricey! I'm pretty sure MartyJ investigate those thoroughly and found that they were brilliant though.

If I was going for upgraded disc's the grooved ones would be my choice as well. Are they the type the doesn't rust does anybody know.

hmm, I was wondering about that too. I wonder is the black an outer coating? I guess it must be and I suppose it rubs off with the pads?

I got all discs and yellow stuff pads from crn products 2 years ago.
The discs are groved and zinc plated (No rust) I can highly recommend them

Can I use standard brake pads with drilled discs? Have a set of green pads for the front wheels but standard at rear. Could I use up the existing standard (front and rear) pads on the car already with the new drilled disc?

Yes but you would need to bed them into the new disc's to optimise the braking.

And here is why you need to bed in brakes.

Here a commentary on the difference between drilled and slotted brake disc's.

Thanks. Thats real helpful. Was worried I would have to order new green pads from camskills. Sure I probably will at some stage.

Stuck big time, trying to get the brake cylinder off the disc. The disc has a ledge that the pads are catching. Have the brakes off and the disc is moving free but cant lift it off the disc! Any ideas?

Thanks. Getting a bit worried. Its like the disc has worn so much that it has caused a lip at the top and at the bottom ( rust areas). KC. I'll take a couple of pics of the new discs now.

Re: back box, brake discs and pads 12 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 328
1. Loosen two bolts with my fat fingers pointed at.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

2. Remove clip from suspension strut by pulling out.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

3. Remove lower of two previously loosened bolts.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

4. Lever the caliper clockwise and this will give full access to the pads, i.e. pull down on a screwdriver wedged into the position I have the garden mini rake stuffed into.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

5. Push back the brake piston with a wind back tool, or the handle of a hammer levered against the prong of the outside of the caliper. No photo sorry.

Hope that helps you out.

That is only to get access to the pads, to replace the disc's you will need to loosen the 2 no. 17mm bolts at the rear of the complete cailper. If you are doing that, don't let the caliper hang by the brake hose cable tie it to the suspension strut so you don't damage the brake hose.
