Its like a Ferrari Kit showroom up there !
Anyone know why there is such an influx of these for sale?
Is it just coincidence or linked somehow to new non declaration ? thoughts?

Probably so many for sale as there isn't enough clowns willing to be seen driving one!
Nothing more cringeworthy than seeing someone floating about in a replica car thinking they are the dogs danglies, when in reality not only do they get the usual bell end tag for driving a "supercar", but also get the cheapskate bell end tag for not even having the real thing!

A MR2 Ferrari replica isn't a kit car though, its essentially just a bodykit.
Personally i would love to build a kit car some day, sadly i don't have a garage or more importantly i don't have the time.
However, i fully stand by my comment regarding the Ferrari replicas, i really don't see the point. Its a bit like 'Hey look at me, i've got a Ferrari, i'm so cool and rich'. but then also 'Just don't look too closely please, or you might see that i'm not so cool and rich as i want to appear to be'. Just my opinion of course, each to their own as you say.
I'd be totally embarrassed to drive one, and i think a lot of people would be also. I'll say this with complete honesty; i'd rather drive a Lada Riva estate than a fake Ferrari.

Its not the fact that the Lada might be a shit car. Its more the fact that pretending you are something you are not by driving something like a Ferrari replica is a pretty sad way to be, in my opinion of course. And yes, hand on heart i would rather have the Lada!
I could just imagine floating about in a MR2/Ferrari and some beautiful hot woman approaches, batting her eyelashes:
Hot chica: "Hey love the Ferrari honey, wanna take me a spin?"
Me: "Oh its actually a 20 year old Toyota with a bodykit, still interested?"
Hot chica: "Ummm....just remembered i have to wash my hair.... bye"
Me: "Where you going? Come back! I've got 160 brake under the hood...."
At least with a Lada Riva estate, i know when i get random hotties sliding my way in the car park to chat me up, its because of my handsome rugged good looks, not because i'm pretending i'm something i'm not via my car
Besides this, i am stunned by the price of that Lada you linked to, believe it or not they are incredibly hard to buy these days! Most have either been exported or rusted away! If you ever see another for sale on your travels around Ireland (saloon of estate), send me a PM as i would genuinely be interested in buying one at that kinda dough! I'd have been straight down to Wicklow with a trailer to lift that estate if it was still for sale!

Yep Skybound, you are quite correct, it was indeed referred to by some as the poor man's Ferrari. As you say, that's quite the compliment anyway! Personally i never yearned for a Ferrari when i was a lad, it was always something more attainable like the MR2, Supra, etc. It's only now that i'm setting my sights on something like a Ferrari, but i certainly won't be bonding stuff onto my car to achieve it! Or, at least, pretend to achieve it!

All of us that have kit cars don't build them for the "lets look at me" we build them to achieve a goal, I built a replica lambo on a mr2 and its far from a bodykit took me over 4 years to build it there is another chap on here with a 355 replica with a v6 in it so its not all show and go

Lamborghini's, Ferrari's and most other exotic cars are usually admired for their looks first and foremost. Performance and cost are the questions further down the list. As the saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Why not have a fake if you know that you can never afford the real thing.
If you bought a fake watch because the way it looks, who cares if it is only worth a few quid. Why should it be that the rich people only have the good looking stuff ?

Have to agree here, I was in spain on a lads holiday about 7 years ago and I bought a replica watch and a replica wallet, I bought them because I liked them not because I wanted a Rolex (or polex as they put it)and cant remember what the wallet was supposed to be but because when I seen them I liked them. For me the same concept applies with cars, if you love the look of a Ferrari or Lamborghini and are happy to have a replica why shouldn't you. Personally I like the replicas and have to take my hat off to the person who put so much time and not to mention money into building his car the way he wants it.
Thats just my opinion though, each to their own.

Oh my word, comparing replica cars to fake watches. No offence, but if you are wearing fake watch, then...

Seriously, i wouldn't waste my time, so i won't be coming back to you ever.
If i wanted a Lamborghini or Ferrari, i'd save up and buy the real thing.
