I used to buy a lot of car magazines in the past. One of my favourite topics was the latest technology for cars, whether it was oem or aftermarket.
If you have read something interesting,(doesn't have to be MR2 related) please post here.
An interesting product that has caught my attention is the use of electric turbo/superchargers. Audi, Mercedes and Bentley are three oem manufacturers that have embraced this technology. The electric charger is not a replacement for a turbo and this is what confuses some people. Some people scoff at the idea of a electric turbo, but as mentioned they don't fully understand that it is there to aid a turbo.
The electric turbo/supercharger is basically used to reduce turbo lag by compressing air similar to a turbo. The 48v electric motor can get up to speed extremely fast to compensate for turbo lag. Once the turbo has caught up, it then does the rest of the work and the electric turbo shuts down until it is needed again.
There are different versions of these electric turbos. Garrett even has the electric motor on the actual turbo. Torqamp are a aftermarket manufacturer who are developing the 48v electric turbo as a add-on.
