hi guys heres the problem bought a 95 3gse jap import recently pretty cheap that wont rev past 6200 rpm and is way down on power. The car had an engine swap at some stage and timing belt and clutch were changed as was fuel filter and air filter! had a good mechanic check her out and ignition timing was fine, oxygen sensor was changed but no difference. Checked neutral sensor too n no fault codes coming up! we tried changing ecu but no difference either!! any ideas would be great

I think all u can do there is double check the timing and set the spark plug gap, them plastic covers to set the TDC can be off sometimes, im never trusting them plastic covers again after my last encounter with them.
Take out a spark plug from the first cylinder and put a long rod in there put a ratchet onto the bottom belt pulley and slowly turn the engine until its at top dead center TDC.
U will also need to take of the top rocker cover to see the cams, u will see the notches/markings there that need to be lined up on both of them,
And the spark plug gap i use is .6mm
If i leave the stock .9mm gap my engine wont rev properly either,
My engine is turbo but u seem to be having similar problems to mine,
Properly setting the timing belt, spark plugs and ignition timing solved my problem, hope it works out for u.

following on from what spla has said, this is most likely an ignition or breathing problem.

plugs, leads and distributor cap/rotor arm would be good to rule out. You could also have a look at the air filter and all airline to the inlet manifold, checking for leaks

In saying that, you could just replace all plugs, leads, cap, rotor and air filter as it would do no harm on a car you have just bought

I would also check all of the vac pipes for splits and that the are also routed to the right places , the little one way valves have been known to get blocked also so thats something else to check

Do you know what engine was put in? Was it a rev3 which would have originally been in the car? Rev 1&2 have different size manifold and downpipe which could contribute to breathing issues. Its unlikely but a possibility.
