MR2 SW20 Radiator?? 9 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 47
Hi folks,

Just wondering about MR2 SW20 radiators..

Are all radiators the same for 1991 -1999? Both (N/A & Turbo)

I've seen some nice looking aftermarket ones for sale in the UK on eBay.
They claim that all MR2 MK2 radiators are the same fitment.
Is this true?

And are these aftermarket radiators to be trusted? Or is OEM the way to go?

I don't have A/C on my car. The only reason I'm lloking into a new radiator is because my original 1991 is missing some fins.

Thanks guys,
- Rex.

The n/a radiators are actually a bit smaller in width but they are interchangeable with the turbo ones.
For example no mods required to fit a turbo rad onto an n/a.
But if you have a turbo rad you wouldnt want to be getting the smaller n/a one.

Cool thanks a million for that info.
So it seems to be all good from an NA perspective.

If the rad is wider will the NA factory brackets still hold it?

Yeah everything fits the only difference is the turbo rad is about an inch wider on each side.
With the n/a there are 2 plastic inserts at the sides to stop air passing through the gaps and route it into the rad.

Ill take a pic of the 2 side by side tomorrow if i dont forget.

This is the radiator I got:

www.ebay.ie/itm/TOYOTA-MR2-Mk-2-2litre-R...;hash=item460c21c267

GBP£85 + £35GBP Postage to ROI - you could get it sent to Parcel Motel NI and pay the £15 and the oversized penalty it would save a few bob there

Same seller I used - radiator is still working flawlessly over 2 years / 15,000 miles later

Exact same one mr2-ben sells. As your car is over 20 years old you may need new bushings for the radiator base which aren't included with the new rad - I was able to reuse mine but just to be aware.

I looked at the other aftermarket ones but a good new of them need non-oem shrouds - anyway my cars been round mondello (granted it was a training day) and never passed 9 o'clock on the coolant gauge - the one I linked is allumionum core so supposed to be more efficient

thats my first hand experience anyway

EDIT: heres the post I put up when I changed over the rad - changed the 2 hoses also - probably not encessary but I was minus a car for over a week 200kms from home so needed everything to go to plan:
