Hey guys, I have been informed that some of you don't frequent the US based boards very often, and some of you may not be aware of ATS Racing, and the products we offer. We have been a part of the MR2 scene since 1995, and an organized company since 1999. Our sole focus is on the MR2 Turbo. We mainly deal with engine, turbo, and ECU upgrades.

We offer built short and long blocks, turbo upgrades from 200rwhp up to 700rwhp, and ECU upgrades from the ROM tuned ECU's to fully programmable standalone engine management systems.

First up we have the CT-27. The first CT-26 based turbo upgrade that is capable of over 300rwhp. The CT27 combined with our ROM tune ECU (upgraded factory ECU), has given us the ability to provide our customers with previously unheard of power in an affordable package. Rom tune combos are also offered for the GT28RS, GT3071, and TDO6 turbos. Rom tunes are limited to AFM based engines, and 550cc injectors.

Our Built short blocks(no cylinder head), and long blocks (with cylinder head), come in many different configurations depending on your budget and power goals. We offer 2.0L, 2.2L Stroker, and recently added the 2.3L Stroker to the ATS line-up.

If your interested in any of our products, or just have a question or comment, please feel free to either call or e-mail me and I will be happy to assist you. Or just check out our website www.atsracing.net .

We have many happy customers all over the world, and some right there in Ireland.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks Scott, I think Paryan was looking for a CT26 replacement. For someone who has a CT26 that is tired and needs replacing, what are the ins and outs of going with a CT27?

The CT-27 is built off of a stock CT-26, so from outward appearances it looks stock. It uses the toyota housings, and center section, so it bolts right in using all toyota hardware, and it has a 6 month warranty. You can follow the facory service manual for installation, and be sure to use the factory metal gasket at the oilfeed/return flange. DO NOT USE RTV or other types of sealant, as that is the quickest way to destroy any turbo.

As far as performance goes, the CT-27 is somewhat comparable to a CT-20b from the GEN3 Turbos. The CT-20b will spool slightly faster (lighter internals), but the CT-27 will handle high boost better, as it will only be sold by us with a steel turbine wheel. The benefit of the CT-27 is it's warranty, availability, and it is considerably cheaper than a brand new turbo from Toyota.

Some turbo rebuilders claim incredibly high hp figures from Hybrid CT26's. Is the CT27 a fully optimised CT26 or is it just a step on the ladder to the ultimate CT26?

Well it depends on how closely matched the off-the-shelf tune of the blitz ECU is to you current modifications. If it's close then the ATS Tuned ECU probably won't gain you anything.

A lot of rebuilders will add an upgraded compressor wheel, and then assume the turbo will flow whatever that compressor is capable of. Or they assume the exhaust side of the ct-26 flows as well as the ct-26 in the MK3 Supra, which the twin-entry exhaust housing does not. Some re-builders will aalso recommend clipping the turbine wheel, to increase flow. All that does is make the turbine wheel more inefficient, and you still have not addressed the flow problems up stream in the exhaust housing.

With the CT-27 we optimised the flow through the exhaust housing while still maintaining good spool.

We think the CT-27 is about as far as you can go when starting with a stock ct-26, other than upgrading the WG actuator to allow more than about 22 psi boost. With a helper spring or upgraded actuator, the ct-27 is capable of 350 RWHP.

Wow - CT27 looking more and more interesting.

If you were in a position where only looking for 350hwp max, would a ct27 with uprated actuator be a better in terms of spool and power band than a gt28 or gt30 ?

What are the pros and cons of both the ct27 and gt28/30 ?

And most importantly, what would the cost be to get the ct27 with uprated actuator, shipped to Ireland ? Can you give the price with/without me shipping my turbo over ? Do you take the ct20b as a core charge refund ?

Sorry for all the questions - but can the core refund be done by Paypal ? i.e. I buy a ct27 and it arrives and then I ship my ct20b over - and then I get my refund wen you receive the turbo ? i.e. I don't need to ship my turbo in advance ?

It is my opinion that the CT27 is not a good choice for 350whp. It has done it before (on one of my personal cars) but that is the absolute limit. I hope it doesn't look like I am arguing with Scott about the CT27. It can and has produced 350whp (on a US Dynojet dyno). I guess I am saying that I would rather have a turbo that makes 350whp at 17 psi (with cams) instead of 24 psi (Scott was wrong when he quoted 22 psi).

For 350whp I would certainly chose a GT3071R over the other turbos listed. The only downside of the GT3071R is the cost of the kit over the cost of the CT27. The same day I set the CT27 record I also dyno'd a GT3071R. On the same car at the same boost (1.8 bar) the GT3071R made 384whp versus the CT27's 350whp.

We do not accept CT20B's as cores for the CT27, however the CT20B will sell for over $300 (US) in the used market.

BTW my belief is that the CT20B = CT27 in performance, with the CT27 getting an edge in reliability because of the steel turbine wheel.

Prices on our website are currently correct for everything except the GT28RS (it's on sale for $1650) and our website will calculate shipping for you. Just add to cart and then enter your country in the cart page and it will tell you the total shipping.

Hey Aaron

I knew you weren't disagreeing with Scott - I knew he was just talking about what the turbo was capable of when you push it. I was kinda thinking to only run around 320-330whp.

I was just looking on your website - the gt28rs is listed as good for 300-400fwhp. So, about 320whp ? To get about 320-330whp out of the gt28rs, would it still be efficient or would you need to run a lot of boost ?

Is it the same scenario as the ct27 - it's capable of 400fwhp but its on its limits ?

Sorry for all the noob turbo questions but do you rate the gt2871 or gt2876 ? or should you just move up to the 3071 ?

TIA

Re:ATS Racing 13 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 5
Personally I don't like the GT28RS. It's a lot of money to spent for a turbo with barely better performance than a CT27 or CT20B. Typically we see 285whp on a GT28RS car on 93 pump gas, it takes more boost (and more octane) to get them over 300whp.

The GT2876 is basically the same story, except with more lag.

There is a version of the GT3071 with a GT28 style exhaust housing called the GT2871R-WG and I have had successful results with that turbo, but it was on an AWD car and we could not dyno it.

Our favorite all around turbo is the GT3071R. On a car with stock cams they are usually 300whp at 17 psi. On a car with cams they are usually 330ish at 17 psi. This is with the rom tune. With the Power FC and good tuning we are seeing 350whp at 17 psi.

The CT27 is usually 275whp at 17 psi on stock cams and barely better with cams. The same is true for the GT28RS as well.

Thanks for the info Aaron Slowy narrowing down my turbo choices !

Just one last question, I promise !

Is the gt2871R-wg an externally gated/cheaper setup ? any reason to go for it over the gt3071R ?

The GT3071R-WG (internally gated) is about $300 cheaper than the normal GT3071R kit (externally gated). We have always chosen the externally gated version except in cases of cramped engine bays (typically ST205 engines in ST185 chassis).
